Have a question?
There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding the last update. The listing on Indiegogo is limited to the Combar without the knife and saw (they won't allow the Combar Pro to be listed). The add-ons are for the folks on Indiegogo who cannot get the knife and saw.
Whatever you ordered via Kickstarter will be delivered as per the pledge.
Hope that clarifies the update. Please come back with any questions.
Yes. The add-ons are only for the Indiegogo backers (not the Kickstarter)
Olga, I don't think we are concerned.
Exactly what I expected ;-)
Or does this only apply to indiegogo not the Kickstarter backers?
So what will those of us that backed the Pro receive?
@B. may be you can use your brain. Bééé :))
Maybe the best place to ask for an Indiegogo "update" is there?
@B. Update For this !
Sorry - that should read "without the dangerous survival knife..."
Yes. Indiegogo simply closed us down after working with us for weeks to get the project live because someone in the Trust and Safety team decided the Combar was a weapon. However, we are now live again (albeit with the very dangerous survival knife that seemed to scare the desk jockeys). Click the pre-order link to take you through to the site. Thanks!
Was this project suspended?
Like update for what? I am not even sure they got our money from KS yet.
Carol, thank you for taking such an active interest in the project.
Honestly, we didn't even consider stretch goals. Once we hit the target and knew that we were committed to deliver to our backers, that is all we have been focused on.
The Combar has been in the works for 3 years and all our energies are being spent on putting the product in your hands with no compromise to the original vision.
We are in this for the long term and getting the best possible product to you is more important than squeezing the process for a few more dollars. Our brand and reputation is prioritized above any short term gain. That is how we see the world.
In Kickstarter's own words (from their blog - Think before you stretch) "expanding a project’s scope can change the creative vision and put the whole project at risk. We’ve seen stretch goals leave some projects overwhelmed, over-budget, and behind schedule." That was not a risk we were prepared to take.
The Combar and the accessories have been carefully thought out as an ecosystem. We put it all out there for you and that is what we are very excited to deliver to the 423 wonderful people that backed us.
I hope that explains our thinking.
Super shocked there was no stretch goal on this one....and no add-ons offered....
Je vous remercie
Toutes mes félicitations !
Shaun - thank you!
Brian - yes, we will do that and reach out to you before shipping to make that happen.
Will we be able to add the knife and/or saw before or at the final survey? In other words, upgrade to the "Pro" package? I'm getting pretty excited about the Combar possibilities!
excited for the team!
happy to be a part of this journey!
Yes - before shipping we will reach out and make it happen!
Guys can we get the Holster as an addon?
We stand behind the Combar and offer a lifetime warranty for the tool for all reasonable use.
Like the Leatherman Warranty, ours isn't going to include abuse so if someone intentionally drops their Combar from a 20 story building to see how it holds up we are going to have a hard conversation...
We are in the process of setting up the US distribution and we will handle warranty returns through that network.
Combar not crowbar :-D
Thanks for your answer even if I am still a bit concerned about this specific type of steel quality.
On another subject (hopefully) , and I am sorry if you already answered this question, but what would be the product warranty? What would be the process to get the crowbar fixed? Thanks
I checked with Yaniv and the choice of 420J2 for the axe head was based on a combination of the most suitable material and manufacturing method for the geometry and hardness required, Yaniv said he tested few steels and that one gave the best result for what we aiming for. Our research showed that 90% of the time outdoorsmen would be using their axes for trail work including trimming branches and felling saplings up to 15-20cm (up to 7.87 inches) in diameter. That is what the shape and steel choice was optimized for.
I am personally more concerned about 420j2...
Hey - thanks for the question regarding the steel. Here are the main reasons we went with 420HC:
1. Great corrosion resistance
2. Heat treatment can get you to a higher hardness than traditional 420
3. Solid results in mass production - Gerber, Leatherman etc, use it extensively
4. Easy to sharpen
Generally, as part of the Combar system it's a very good combination as it is great for heavy use.
Because the knife is stand alone, we will offer more expensive materials and different grinds/designs in the future.
Blade fanatics are not exactly enthusiastic about this steel, but I bet there are other reasons for this steel choice... And I would love to know them ;-)
if possible please use a better steel than this cheap 420 - thanks
Glad about the level of communication here! Very nice!
Any plans for stretch goals?
Thanks a lot, perfect!
We used Maxpedition Falcon bag and attached it with ACLIM8’s holster adaptor.
Will find out for you.
Thanks, I saw somewhere a photo that show the combar box attached to the side of a bag. Looks like a maxpedition gearslinger Kodiak I think, or a falcon. My question is, what is the size of the tacties used? Thanks again.
You can use the handle of the knife; a coin; or a key to open up the mechanism and replace the blade, Anything that will fit the slot. We designed it so that you don't need a special tool.
Does the saw requires some sort of tool to be blocked open? If yes, is it provided? Thanks
Length is 400mm = 15.748 inches.
At the widest point (on the head) it is 73.5mm = 2.89 inches and has a depth of 40mm = 1.57 inches. Incidentally, the depth is the width of the spade.
Hi @creator. May be this has already been asked. What is the length and width of the combar with all the tools folded? Thanks!
Aaron, you are correct. The entire spade is 3mm and the ridge is for added strength.
Thanks for uploading the new more detailed videos showing the axe, spade and saw in action! Tools look second to none for their size!!!
Heya guys.. I was wondering about the thickness of the titanium spade.. So is the 3mm thickness stated the entire spade and that ridge in the center is just a curve for strength?.. Hard to tell in the videos.
I'd be happy with s30v cuz it's easier to sharpen but still a very good Steel
I'm really looking forward to see what sort of accessories they come out with :-)! I'll be rooting for an upgraded knife that we can purchase after initial tool gets here!
" you do need a wider form factor; we have also created an extension that slides over the spade (coming soon)."
One of their instagram posts showing the spade mention a slip on blade..
