In a world that is more "connected" than ever before people are crying out for a connection that is more significant. Something that goes beyond seeing and is about experience, understanding and empathy. As two friends circumnavigate the globe in 90 days, they are seeking to tell the stories that go 'beyond borders' and find the common humanity in all of us - no matter how different our lives and worlds might be.
Beyond Borders is a feature-length documentary, covering a global circumnavigation by two friends: Louis Cole and Juan-Peter (JP) Schulze. Louis and JP will travel in a light aircraft, and seek to embrace and celebrate the richness and diversity of countries and cultures, while celebrating the things we share that make us human.
This will be a film that intends to break down borders, illustrate how small our world really is, and encourage others to travel and explore their world.
A beautiful adventure.
MEET THE CREW
In August 2017, JP Schulze and Louis Cole will strap themselves into a kitted out twin-engined aircraft, taking with them: camera gear, survival equipment, copious amounts of fuel and a huge appetite for adventure. They will depart in an easterly direction and after 90 days and over 40 000 Miles, return to that very location, having flown around the world.
The trip will provide an opportunity to document a perspective on our planet that few ever get to experience, while Louis and JP immerse themselves into a variety of different cultures and showcase the beauty of what they experience.
Louis will continue to daily vlog the journey, offering a daily behind the scenes experience of the trip and the filming of the documentary.
JP will leverage his flying experience to complete individual legs averaging 1400 nautical miles each to eventually complete the circumnavigation. Louis will focus on filmmaking, while a ground crew and production team will facilitate logistics, weather briefings, documentary pre-production and on-site filming.
The trip will require flying into over 22 countries on 6 continents, offering a diverse and culturally rich filming environment which is the intention of the film itself.
In early 2015 the two friends spent two weeks flying across Southern Africa. To this day it still remains to be on of the boys' biggest adventures, as they covered 5000 miles in a small 2 seat Sling Aircraft and enveloped themselves into a variety of cultures including a Himba tribe still living true to their roots. It lead to JP capturing the photograph above, with Himba kids absolutely mesmerized by photobooth. A perfect illustration on just how much there still is to learn about other cultures.
Louis daily vlogged the trip and viewers raved about the content! Watch those daily vlogs here for a taste on what is to come!
ABOUT THE FILM - BEYOND BORDERS
In a world so divided, we feel there is no better time to produce a film embracing and celebrating differences, promoting understanding and empathy instead of instilling bigotry and hate which ultimately comes from a lack of understanding and fear.
We intend to find extraordinary and ordinary people, from all kinds of backgrounds, who live lives that are true to themselves and their worlds, while embracing the worlds of others - we want examples of truly empathetic and peaceful lives.
It will be a film celebrating unity, differences and love. We intend to break down borders, illustrate how small our world really is, and encourage others to travel and explore.
With a top notch production team behind us, this film will be nothing short of spectacular. We will leverage the creative freedom this Kickstarter campaign offers to redefine independent filmmaking and drive truly influential change in our world.
- The route is subject to major change depending on a variety of factors.
The final Poster, Merchandise and Disk Design will be improved with time, above is purely for illustration purposes.
Kickstarter eliminates the creative restrictions associated with using investments. It provides us complete control of the narrative, production methods, post production, distribution and most importantly the flight itself.
Kickstarter also allows us to interact with supporters, to share the adventure more intimately with so many of you. It allows us to give back directly to individual supporters, it becomes a fair bit more personal, which both of us prefer.
The £100,000 goal is the minimum we require to produce this film. We have some of the best creatives working on this project and to ensure a great film, we need to invest all we can into it. The more money we raise, the better the final film will be and
ALL MONEY RAISED FROM KICKSTARTER WILL BE GOING DIRECTLY INTO THE FILM ITSELF - NONE OF IT TO US.
JP and I are funding the flight ourselves, it remains a seperate expense to the production of the film. If the Kickstarter is unsuccessful, the flight will still happen. Unfortunately we cannot afford to pay for both the flight and production of the film. That's why we need your help!

Risks and challenges
Flying around the world inherently carries a large amount of risk, it'll be the spice of the film after all. We have spent 3 years preparing and training to ensure our safety, and have some of the finest and most experienced individuals working to make this journey a massive success.
The main challenge will be compiling the huge amounts of footage gathered during the trip into a compelling narrative and distributing the film effectively to a global audience. However we are certain it is within the teams capabilities and can't wait to see how we tackle this adventure!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
