Only 26% of high school seniors test at grade level in math. Internationally, the U.S. ranks 30th in math proficiency. We’re going to fix that.
We’re creating an app that will help students learn math in an easy, fun way that will pay off big-time in school, on standardized tests, and beyond. And we’re going to give it away for free to students from low-income families.(250,000 in the first year alone!) But we need your help to finish it!
We’re Educators and Technologists, and We're Creating a Monster Math App!
We are making a monster math app that will give kids the skills and confidence they need to conquer a Common Core test, annihilate the ACT and SAT, and put an end to America’s failing math grades.
It’s a gamified math app called +1 Math. It will work on smartphones, tablets or desktop computers and its serious fun – like gummy bear vitamins for your child’s math health. +1 Math costs $60 for a one year subscription, and we want all students grades 4 – 12 in the U.S. to have access to it – no matter their household income.
- The +1 Math App challenges and improves math ability and test scores for Grades 4 – 12.
- +1 Math allows students to master math at their own pace, without the shame and discomfort that often comes with learning at a different pace.
- +1 Math meets kids where they live: socializing on the web, playing video games that build skills and confidence.
- +1 Math is designed to work with current math curricula, including The Common Core.
We’re halfway there, with prototypes, initial game designs and content. Now we need your help to finish paying programmers, game designers, question-makers, and user-experience experts to turn our prototype into a monster math app. When complete, +1 Math will be super-exciting and easy for users, all while building students’ skills and confidence.
Instead of printing T-shirts, sending out mugs, printing stickers or distributing other perks, we’d rather put 100% of your generous contributions into making +1 Math incredible and giving it to as many children as possible, as soon as possible. We hope you understand.
Our goal is to distribute +1 Math FREE to 250,000 deserving students by the end of 2016. Our mission is to have the program in use by 10 million students within 10 years.
We’d love you to contribute $60 now to reserve the app for your child. For just a bit more you can reserve subscriptions for multiple students – or for an entire classroom!

Risks and challenges
There are always risks when creating a large computer program: unforeseen delays and glitches. To deal with these issues, we've found a programmer with experience creating large programs similar to this one. We’ve also hired a user-experience expert who has worked on similar projects and who will keep us on schedule. In addition, while we are aiming to have the program ready for delivery by 2016, we are scheduled to have a working model by the end of September. This way we have three months of beta-testing to ensure the program is the best it can be!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
