About this project
- What We’re Doing:
Simply put, we’re raising money to finish our film! Operation Route 66 is a film about a father and son riding across America on motorcycles to meet the proud Americans that have served our country in Iraq and Afghanistan. We met hundreds of veterans and their families.
We are now editing our journey and our interviews into a feature length documentary to bring these stories to the rest of the America. We want as many people as possible to be able to connect with these Americans. Film Festivals show great veteran films, as does The Discovery Channel, PBS, National Geographic. We need as many folks as possible to see these stories. It has to look great. That's where you come in! This is Your Film! Take ownership. Pledge. Help us finish this film.
Why We’re Doing It
We are story tellers. The only service members we knew of were the ones that made the news. Those stories were about extreme heroism or extreme tragedy. We heard the news about the suicides, PTSD, TBI, we thought to ourselves; “What is going on? What can we do to learn the truths and share them with the rest of the country and the world?” We turned our curiosity into a real life journey and a story about a father and a son and their adventure to meet and speak to these brave souls. This is our service, our tribute to those that have stood between us and those that would try to deny our way of life. Now we have to get our film edited and seen. This is your opportunity to back an important film and be a part of something bigger than all of us.
When will Operation Route 66 be done?
We are planning on having a rough cut by spring 2013 and a fine cut by summer 2013.
Many festival submission deadlines are August and September.
Can I Gift An Incentive? YES! Spectacular idea. If you would like to donate to the film but give the reward to someone as a gift, go through all the normal process of making a donation in your name. For billing purposes, this action must be in your name. After our deadline, we will send a message to you on Kickstarter. (It will be forwarded to the email address you provided) We will request things like your t-shirt size and address from you at that time. Please reply with all the person’s information that is to receive the reward. We will make sure they are the person who receives the reward.
Once we reach our funding goals you will get a message from us requesting information from you like your T-shirt size, address, etc. At that time, please reply to us as soon as possible so that we can complete your incentive.
Can I increase my pledge once it’s been made? YES! Once you donate to our campaign, you may want to change your incentive reward to a different one, or increase your pledge amount. To do so, go to Kickstarter and sign in. If you go to our campaign page, the green “Back This Project” button has been replaced with a blue “Manage Your Donation” button. Click it and you can enter a new amount, or choose a new incentive.
What happens if the money isn’t raised in time? Unfortunately nothing. If our goal isn’t met before the deadline, no money changes hands and no movie is made. We want to avoid this scenario at all cost!
Can we exceed the goal?YES! What an amazing problem to have. Kickstarter will allow as much money as is given before the deadline. Maybe that would mean a more widespread theater release, or more unique physical copy packaging. The possibilities are endless.
How do we contact you?
Glad you asked! You can contact us directly at email@example.com. We check it. We will get back to you. We promise!
Is Operation Route 66 a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization?
We have created a 501(c)(3) parent corporation.
If you want your donation to be tax deductable you will find a donate tab on our website www.operationroute66.us. All gifts that are given on Kickstarter are just that; gifts. However of course, you are receiving the items at each level of giving.
If I donate, when can I redeem the incentive?
All incentives, big and small, will only happen if our goal is met. If we do meet our goal, immediately after our deadline we will start to manufacture and ship all physical merch directly to you. It will be our priority to schedule the more personal incentives as soon as possible. You will hear from us. (More on this as we get closer to our deadline)
Who does the money go to?
Every penny (minus the fees for Kickstarter’s involvement) will go directly to the editing and post production of the film.
$45,000 seems like a low number to edit, color correct, add music and master an entire feature film.
You are correct. Anything over and above our ask will be used toward these expenses. Kickstarter and Amazon both take a percentage of these donations. Thankfully the director, the producer and the crew have donated weeks and weeks of their time to see this project through to the end. Any other questions? Just ask us. We’d be stoked to answer them. firstname.lastname@example.org

Risks and challenges
We hope to complete the film by early summer 2013. The film is currently in the editing/post-production stage where many unaccounted for costs can arise. We hope to be able to pay for all of the necessary stages in post production to ensure that our film looks and sounds as professional as possible. This will make it more competitive at bigger festivals such as Cannes and Sundance.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
