Our first idea was to create a horror story, which was going to be developed in a video game called "Solitude". Digging further, we found it's Japanese translation, Kodoku, and the myth around it. We thought there was something to do !
This gave us the opportunity to give some depth to the scenario, and to build our narration around this legend.:
"The island is a vase, and characters are insects“.
We started working on the game a few month ago, and we are aiming to release it in 2015. There is some amazing feedback from our first release to the press :
To create our story, we had to create characters with a real background, evolving in a coherent universe. We wrote a story for each character the hero is going to meet. Our artist started working on sketches for in-game cinematic, and from that point, we decided we had enough material to create Kodoku Origins, a 13 pages comic book, talking about what brought characters on the island, and sometimes how they make their way in it.
To give you a better idea about what we are doing, here are the first 3 pages of the comic book.
Those 3 pages represents one of our first story, where a missionary goes on Kodoku island. Once there, he will be driven mad by the island torments, and will face a dilemma, being the victim of the island, or commit the ultimate sin.
Our comic book contains 5 stories, each of them approaching what makes us human, and also what make us inhuman in front of situations beyond our control.
After we tested many things, we started changing background perspectives or characters anatomy to create a visual imbalance and therefore create an uneasy feeling. We also work a lot or image evocation and on symbols.
For instance, our teaser is an allegory of the concept of fear, associated with narrative elements from the game.
Those image evocation and deformation are actually pretty fun to exploit once they are mastered. The style is inspired from anime we liked like Hokuto no Ken, or movies like Masters of Horror.
As said earlier, we like the idea of having the island as a vase, and characters as insects.
The madness and horror of Kodoku will make you happy :)
We really hope you like it, and that you will be able to see this soon. We are putting a lot of ourselves into this to make something original.

Risks and challenges
We have a cumulated experience in creation (illustration, game industry, scenario ) of 35 years, and the author and artist for this project are dedicated to it 100%.
Therefore, we are confident about the realisation of this project. The major obstacle for us, is that this is our first comic book. That is why, in order to get proper production estimation we created the first 3 pages on our own.
This allowed us to estimate that will be able to complete this project in a 4 month time, keeping the same quality,
