About this project
My name is Jilna and I am 29 years old and I live in London. I've started this campaign to raise money so that I can buy a camera and put on an exhibition.
Let me tell you a little about myself. I'm a trained medical doctor and last year I went out to various countries in Africa as a volunteer. When I came back to the UK my health began to deteriorate.
I had a variety of abdominal symptoms (which I'm sure you don't want to hear about in detail) as well as significant joints pains. Following this my mood really plummeted and I was diagnosed with depression. The pain in my joints has become so bad that I'm not currently able to work as a doctor and so I have no income.
It's not all so bad though, through this time I started working on various projects that I was able to do from home, one of these being photography. I finally had the time to look through all my photographs and with the help from online tutorials on youtube learn how to edit them.
I've started learning more about photography through the internet and now I'm ready to put my knowledge into practice.
My health is uncertain at the moment but it looks like I will be getting a diagnosis of SLE (known as Lupus) and hopefully I will be starting treatment soon and then the pain will begin to improve.
My project is called the SpyGlass Project because it's about looking into the future and creating something beautiful. I'm planning to have an exhibition space in June and in the run up to that I want to go out around London and take some shots that I will be able to showcase there. The main expenses I have for the project are the camera itself, the website, photo editing software and rental of an exhibition space.
I want to use the money that I raise through kickstarter to have my first exhibition as well as buying a modern camera and setting up a website with my materials. I would also like to use it to start entering some photography competitions. If you'd like to see some of the material I've created so far you can find me on Instagram @thespyglassproject or watch the video above.
Thank you for reading my blurb and thank you in advance to anyone who is able to contribute, your help is priceless and I hope I can create something that you will be proud of being a part of.
Risks and challenges
The main challenge to my project is my current physical health and motivation. Hopefully you'll have a look at my instagram page ('thespyglassproject') and I can convince you that self motivation will not be an issue for me. When it comes to my health, there's not much that I can change about it but I am seeking treatment and I've found ways to manage on days that the pain is particularly bad. The benefit of photography is that I can do it anywhere and editing can be done on days that are harder for me.
Please do message me if you have any concerns and I hope that I will be able to address them and alleviate them.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
