Georgia Beer Co. "IS IT ON YOUR MIND?"
We believe that every beer lover deserves a local beer! With the nearest Georgia brewery being over 150 miles away, our mission is to give Valdosta its own local option: A brewery that represents the tastes and aromas and hospitality that is characteristic of South Georgia.
Georgia Beer Co. is a start-up production Craft Brewery in Valdosta, GA. It is owned by three partners from the Valdosta area, who are committed to producing Valdosta's FIRST and only craft beer, right here in the Azaela City. Currently, Georgia Beer Co. is on a path to a public/private partnership with the City of Valdosta, Valdosta-Lowndes Industrial Authority, and Valdosta Main Street to renovate and revitalize a historic downtown building.
Our mission is to use as many locally sourced ingredients as possible to offer a unique and true taste of the south. From peaches to pecans to cane syrup, we plan to highlight the flavors that make Georgia famous.
What are we going to do with your money?
We want to build our fans and guests an amazing tasting room in which to hang out with other beer lovers, kick back with a delicious and local beer, and enjoy a relaxed and entertaining ambience. This space will need chairs, tables, coat hooks, TV's, corn hole, dart boards, bar top, small stage, and many other amenities and comforts that should make this space feel like a home away from home for our guests. After we purchase and ship all of the rewards and incentives, the remaining funds will go directly into the brewery!
If we exceed our goal, we plan to add an outdoor space, a "beer garden" with picnic tables, umbrellas, and fresh air!
It's easy to back this project and earn some amazing rewards, just:
- Click the green "Back This Project" button.
- Choose your reward (additional rewards and/or multiple of the same award can be added on by increasing your dollar amount here).
- Sign up with Kickstarter and click "Pledge."
- Most importantly, share our story with your friends! If we do not meet our goal, we do not get a single penny. Only the combined efforts of the local community will make this dream a reality.
If you don't like beer, but love preserving history, then feel empowered by helping us renovate a nearly 100 year old downtown building, bringing tourism and life to downtown Valdosta. We hope to capture the character and resilience of the 100 year old brick and showcase it for all to experience on a Georgia Beer Co. brewery tour.
WHO ARE THESE GUYS ANYWAY?
Owners J. Ryce, Drew, and Chris all met while attending Valdosta State University. When banking, forensics, and property management careers left them wanting more out of life, they decided to become small business owners and do what they love for a living: brewing delicious beer that puts smiles on the faces of those that drink it!
J. Ryce Martin is the Director of Brewery Operations. His background in forensic biology and extensive experience at the microbial level makes him taylor fit for quality control and assurance, archiving, and overseeing the chemical process that turns water, grains, hops and yeast into beer.
Chris Jones is the Director of Business Development. His background in customer service includes restaurant management, economic development, and 13 years in the US Coast Guard Reserve. He currently works as a property manager while still drilling in the USCG.
Drew Young has extensive experience in the financial world, making him an ideal Chief Financial Officer. Currently, Drew lives in Nashville, TN and works as a Risk and Assurance Services Officer at a reputable CPA firm. His background includes compliance, personal banking, and credit management.
Barron has been brewing beer at the commercial level for several years. He has worked in a craft brewery in North Carolina and two breweries here in Georgia. Starting at the bottom, Barron worked his way up to the position of brewer. Upon opening, he will serve as Georgia Beer Company's Head Brewer, responsible for all aspects of the brewing and fermenting process, as well as recipe development.
When designing our logo and choosing a name for our brewery, we decided to keep it simple and classy. No outlandish imagery here, just solid, stoic, Georgia. Check out our selection of great gear and decide what fits your personality the best!

Risks and challenges
The biggest risk in starting any new business is that of the unknown. Will people like our beer? Will we stay fresh and innovative to keep the fans coming back for more? Will we be able to take advantage of Georgia's new Beer Laws to the extent needed to succeed? These are all questions that we are not only asking ourselves but also strategizing educated approaches to answering.
Specifically pertaining to the beer industry, post-funding issues will include Federal and State licensing, construction, and account acquisition. Set backs are guaranteed to follow and we plan to tackle each with the same core values we instill in our daily lives: Hospitality, hard work, and community.
Another challenge that we face is the macro breweries constantly doing everything they can to ebb the tide of craft beer that threatens their market share.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
