What's the story?
Wild Card follows Stan Alberts, an avid card and board game
collector, who frequents estate sales looking for anything to add to his
massive collection. On one particularly fateful day, he stumbles across
the holy grail of card games: the Universal Deck. He would do anything
to get it, and he just might have to after an elderly woman named Ruth
unknowingly takes possession of the cards. Above family, above work, above friends, above all else, there is: the Universal Deck.
Any more details?
This will be the fourth short film produced by Shadow Pond Films, and the first project since we relocated to Orlando, Florida. Wild Card will be shot in and around Orlando in July 2012, with local acting talent and a crew made up of both independent filmmakers and students.
No one on the cast or crew is being paid for their hard work on this film. All of the money we raise will go toward production costs.
We are currently well in to preproduction. Casting took place on May 12th at Full Sail University, and we're now narrowing down the auditions and selecting our cast. Filming will take place from July 21st through the 25th at locations in Orlando, Winter Park, St. Cloud, and Zellwood.
Wild Card was written by Josh Graham, and will be directed by
Ricky Hutchens. They have previously worked together on a number of
different projects, including all three previous Shadow Pond Films
How will the funds be spent?
Your generous backing will help to pay for a variety of things, including:
- Permits and Location Fees
- Set Construction
- Props and Set Dressing
- Costumes and Makeup
- Equipment Rental
Not a single person working on this film will be paid for their efforts! Every penny we raise will go toward the production costs of the film.

What exactly is the Universal deck?
The Universal deck of cards was invented by Wayne Cooley in the 1970s, along with a series of games he created to play with the deck. The deck was designed to replace the standard 52 card deck, pinocle, rook, and 54 card tarok decks.
Each suit of the deck is represented by both a color and a symbol: Blue (Circle), Gold (Crescent), Red (Triangle), and Black (Square). The order of the suits is denoted by the number of sides of the respective shapes (i.e.. the circle has only one side, and is therefore the most powerful suit).
There are 13 cards in each suit, and two special universal cards. The cards use a revolutionary alphabetical design to denote order.
Through the years, the deck has been distributed primarily by word of mouth and often by the inventor himself to new players across the globe. The deck and games are easy to learn and fun for the whole family to play.
If you pledge at least $25, you can get your very own Universal deck and experience the deck of the future for yourself!
Who is Shadow Pond Films?
Founded in 2009 for our first short, A Touch of Darkness, Shadow Pond Films LLC has grown into more than just a production company. We now provide production support services and equipment rental to film students and low-budget independent filmmakers in Central Florida.
To date, we have produced three other shorts:
A Touch of Darkness: A period piece spoofing film noir
Good Effort: A story of sibling rivalry
The Book: A mysterious tale of a cursed book
On each film we utilized student crew members, and cast local talent. We support the local communities in any way we can.
