About

Waking up with your face being eaten by the undead sucks. One hero's not taking it anymore. He's grabbed an axe, a chainsaw, and is kicking zombie butt. That's the the root premise of Zombie Mode.

Up until now this has been a one-person project. I'm Kickstarting now, not only to complete Zombie Mode and bring it to as many platforms as I can, but also to engage the community to help make the experience better. I want Zombie Mode to be the best game it can be, and I'm sure together, with your help, it will!

 This DEMO is strictly to give you a taste of the game play and the games progress. This includes-

  • Access to four of the rooms
  • Two faces
  • Three small firearms
  • Three large firearms
  • Three melee weapons
  • Both Keyboard and Controller support

Your face and weapons are automatically wset hen you begin in this demo. In the full game, you will be able to select them.

Now, for more info on Zombie Mode itself....

Yes.  Buuuuuuut I already made a game with Ninjas so this was natural progression.  Not only that, but Zombies can be such a fun genre, especially when it comes to character design and the mood of the game. 

My goal when I started working on Zombie Mode was that I just wanted to make something fun... really really fun. I think by mixing zombies with classic gameplay fits that mold.

Gameplay

You start each game trapped in a random room that is slowly overcome with Zombies.  Each room has three game play types that randomly occur, Standard, Hazard, and Boss Battle.

  • Standard mode has you facing off with a never ending stream of Zombies.  If you survive long enough, a battery will appear at a random spot in the room.  Your objective is to grab three of these batteries which will send out a pulse that terminates whatever Zombies are on screen, opens any doors, and allows access to the armory so that you can upgrade your weapons.  From this point, you 5 seconds to venture into another room or stay in the current room.
  • Hazard is the same as Standard, except each room has a unique hazard.  For example, what is normally just a grandfather clock, now turns into a terrifying buzz saw that can slice through you as well as the undead.
  • Boss Battle pits you against one of the 12 Bosses.  Each room has its own boss to do battle with.  Defeat the boss and you can move onto another room if you choose.

When you terminate zombies you will need to gather their gibs/chunks (remains) which is what you use to purchase weapons from the armory.

Additional Features

  • Level up by slaughtering as many Zombies as you can to unlock over 20+ faces and 40+ weapons.
  • Compete for highscores on the leaderboards.
  • Throughout the house you may run across other "survivors" who will give you optional side missions.
  • Complete all three game play types for a room and gain another page in your character's story.
  • Gather all of the comic book-styled story pages and face off with the Final Boss.

Your character, NoFace, wakes up in a large, what appears to abandoned, house with a zombie eating his face.  You then travel room by room emptying your clip into hordes of the undead as you unlock the secrets of the labyrinth you find yourself trapped in, all the while gaining access to new faces and weapons.

Zombie Mode was initially being built for mobile, but, with the help of Kickstarter, will now support both PC and iOS, Android, OUYA, and more.

It's just me

Officially, my company is called Cocky Culture, but in reality it's just me, Tony.  I'm the artist, programmer, sound guy, executive assistant and chef.  I created Cocky Culture in 2009 after I had been laid off from my day job and quickly found some success developing themes for BlackBerry phones.  In late 2011 I decided to make the jump into mobile games and after a couple small releases I launched Pocket Ninjas on iOS, which in turn, has funded my little company and the development of Zombie Mode.

When I first started working on Zombie Mode, the intent was for it to be a casual, endless survival game for mobile devices.  As it developed I realized that I didn't want to limit the content and quality because of a need to bring it to market as quickly as possible, and although it's a great deal of fun as a mobile game, I don't want to limit it as strictly a mobile game.  This is where Kickstarter comes into play.  

Getting funded on Kickstarter will allow the following - 

  • Optimized for multiple platforms including, but not limited to, PC, iOS, Android, and OUYA with a universal launch
  • Outside support for the in game music and sound effects
  • The completion of 12 rooms (5 currently complete)
  • Several more zombie types (6 currently complete)
  • A unique boss battle for each of the 12 rooms
  • As many Faces and Weapons as I can come up with (minimum 20+ faces and 40+ weapons)
  • The in-game, comic book style, artwork to create and convey the story (so that Zombie Mode actually has a story and is no longer just an endless survival game)
  • Random side missions and goals in the game to add variants to the gameplay experience
  • The optimzed graphics and room layouts to fit various screen aspect ratios and resolutions, such as the wider screens of a PC vs the 4:3 of an iPad

Risks and challenges

The minimum Kickstarter amount is to allow me focus full time on adding as much in-game content as I can so that you, the player, have a complete experience playing! It'll also let me bring in outside support to give Zombie Mode a top notch sound track, bring it to multiple platforms as well as add additional graphical help.

The main challenge is with me developing Zombie Mode as a one person endeavor is that any unexpected issues or changes in directions fall squarely on my shoulders, but I've found to this point I've been able to maneuver those challenges, and being able to focus on Zombie Mode full time for a few more months should allow me the time to overcome anything that may arise.
