"SMALL TOWN TROUBADOUR"
Kickstarer has created a platform that allows independent bands and musicians like me to team up with our friends, family, and fans to raise money for our creative projects. I’ve chosen kickstarter as an avenue to fund part of my latest CD: “SMALL TOWN TROUBADOUR,”and I’m humbly asking you to be a part of it.
To cover the expense of paying the musicians who played on this album, I need to raise about $3500.
If you’d like to be a part of helping me raise the money to pay these guys take a look at the right side of the kickstarter screen to see the list of incentives or rewards I’m offering and choose the one that you’d like the best.
"SMALL TOWN TROUBADOUR" was recorded in Texas using some of the best studio musicians a guy can hire. The guys that played on this record have worked with everyone from Ray Price to Cross Canadian Ragweed to Joel Osteen.
"SMALL TOWN TROUBADOUR" has 8 tracks and I feel it's the best collection of songs I've ever recorded as a group, not only because of the songs themselves, but also because of the diversity of music styles on the CD. There's everything on this CD from country ballads to some really rocking stuff. The subject matter covers everything from a song that I'll be pitching to Ted Nugent about unmanned drones and the 2nd amendment, to a song I wrote about my crush on the amazingly attractive bowhunter chick on the Outdoor Channel: Tiffany Lakosky. I even recorded a great song that my Dad wrote when I was jut a boy called "Republican River Valley."
Obviously one of the incentives, which I hope most of you will purchase anyway, is a copy of the new “SMALL TOWN TROUBADOUR” CD itself. However, by helping me through kickstarter, you’ll get it about 2 weeks before anybody else and in time for Christmas, not to mention having a hand in raising my goal of $3500.
Other rewards for being a part of my kickstarter campaign are things like: T-shirts, autographed 8X10s, original manuscripts of some of my early songs like “Running low on Angels,” private concerts, some of my hand-built rustic furniture, as well as one of my most prized possessions (beyond my children): the first acoustic guitar I ever owned autographed by Willie Nelson!!!!
Risks and challenges
HERE'S THE CATCH:
Kickstarter is an all or nothing machine. I will either reach/surpass my goal of raising $3500 and you will all receive the rewards you chose, or if I come up short of the $3500 goal, I get none of the $3500 and nobody gets the rewards. And then it's just back to touring and trying to sell CDs at my shows...
The main issue an independent musician like me encounters when trying to put out a new project or CD is paying for the darn thing. Usually we go well into debt initially to record and release a CD and then spend the next several years trying to recoup that money by touring and selling physical CDs or more often this day and age downloads(which some big outfit usually takes about 40% of.)
So, instead of going deeply into debt to release "SMALL TOWN TROUBADOUR" I've hopefully found a great tool here in KICKSTARTER which will not only benefit me in raising funds for the project, but also you as the fan to get an opportunity to have an actual helping hand in the project, as well as getting some great rewards. The rewards for being involved in reaching my goal ranges from early copies of the CD weeks before any one else can get it, all the way to unique items like the original manuscripts of songs I've written like "Runnin Low on Angels" or to my one of a kind guitar autographed by Willie Nelson.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
I've had several people ask me what happens if I get over the $3500 mark. Well, all that money will go towards the CD as well. I've got around $8500 total wrapped up in the project so I'll have quite a ways to go to get back to even. Hope that helps!
