Who am I?
My name is Evertt and I’m an artist from Portland, OR.
What is Progressive Movement(s)?
Progressive Movement(s) is an exhibition of sculpture,
video, and performance that will be presented by the Urban Institute for Contemporary
Arts (UICA), during ArtPrize 2011 from 9/21-10/9.
A total of three videos will be shown in conjunction with
the three sculptures that the videos feature. Two of the sculptures are wearable and the third, entitled
Moves Manager, is a custom-walking machine that I ride upon and will be
performed live during ArtPrize 2011 in Grand Rapids, MI on 9/23, 9/24, and
Progressive Movement(s) contains some of the most
significant works I’ve completed in my career. Being that ArtPrize is one of the largest art competitions
in the world, an excess of 100,000 viewers will see my work.
With your help, visitors attending ArtPrize will not only be
able to see what my work is through the videos I’m exhibiting, they’ll also be
able to see what it does through live action, by way of performance.
This work developed in three phases:
1- make a sculpture
2- create a context for the sculpture by using it in a
3- establish a narrative for the performance by creating a
How will I use the funding?
I’ve launched this Kickstarter campaign to gain the support that I’ll
need to be able to ship the sculptures in my exhibition to and from UICA, cover
costs of traveling to and from Grand Rapids, and expenses associated with conducting the performances
once I am there.
I hope to raise more than my goal so I can make minor
adjustments to the mechanics of Moves Manager, repair the suit jacket I wear in
the film, and pay my actor, John Hutton (seen pushing me in the video), for his
participation in the performances at ArtPrize.
If it weren’t for the support of my family, grants from The
Regional Arts & Culture Council, and the Oregon Arts Commission, I would not
be able to produce work of this nature.
I appreciate your support in making it possible for me to share my work with viewers at such a high profile event.
