Almost done!

After plowing through my 500+ emails after Origins, I put my nose to the grindstone and worked to finish Rolling Freight. At this point all that's left to do is to update the rulebook with edits from the proofreader, add the heralds to the game board, and then drop the final game board art into the box bottom. All of those things can realistically happen this weekend as planned.

Speaking of company heralds, I'd like to thanks backers Ray Smith and John Potter for helping out with the heralds. I've attached a picture showing how they'll look on the game board.

One things we've changed that's not represented in this picture is that there is now white text on the blue and red links. This considerably improves readability from a distance.

We ran the new game boards through some plays in the Puffing Billy tournament at Origins and had only very minor changes to make as a result.

I'll post another update when all of the art is finally at the printer.

To our U.S. backers - happy 4th of July weekend!

Game Progress and Details on Natural Disasters

Well, I'd obviously hoped to be finished by now, but have run into a shipping emergency at the APE warehouse. I am bringing another person up to speed before our huge order of the stick book shipping marathon in a couple weeks. Not to mention getting everything ready to ship out to Origins this week. That's taken all of my time.

But enough talk about my personal disasters, let's talk about natural disasters in Rolling Freight.

Natural Disasters are shuffled into the contract deck during setup - two into the ‘B’ phase and one into the ‘C’ deck. During the game, when a natural disaster card is drawn from the contract deck, draw a completed contract card at random and remove that link from the game board, along with all saturation markers at both ends of the link. Finish filling the contract track. Finally, place the destroyed contract face-down on top of.its deck. If multiple disasters are drawn while filling the track, destroy additional completed contracts and place them face down on top of the deck, in the order they were drawn.

Natural disaster cards will be available to all Kickstarter backers.

Well, it's the end of May, is the game done yet?

Our goal was to get the game to the printer by 5/31 (today), and we're close, but not all there yet.

The dice art has been submitted, and the factory is in the process of making prototypes.

The cards, rail links and player mats are also done.

There are some minor tweaks to be made to the boards - mostly related to the scoring track. We're trying to also add heralds to the map, but are having trouble finding images that we can vectorize, so I'm not sure that we'll get these in.

The rulebook is functionally complete and will be sent to the editor today. I think it's pretty sexy, and when it gets back I'll post the PDF.

That leaves the box, which is the furthest behind. This piece is still a couple weeks behind, but that won't hold up the printer starting on the rest of the pieces.

I'll post additional updates as the project commences.

New Improvement and RF Rulebook Cover

We're hard at work on finalizing the layout for Rolling Freight components. To show you that we're actually making progress, here's a sample Improvement, and the cover for the rulebook.

The improvement is new. This wasn't in the original design, but we're including it in the game. Who WOULDN'T like the ability to set dice instead of rolling them?

The text on the rulebook cover is subject to change a bit, but the layout is set. This also gives you a look at the new logo design.

What do you think?
