JOIN US IN A CRUCIAL TIME BECAUSE OUR COMMUNITIES ARE EVAPORATING FAST!
The need to tell our story is immediate. Hey, thanks for checking out our web-series project called THE HOLDOUTS. We need to tell this story now and tell it in our quirky, powerful and comedic way. Our precious landmarks in our neighborhoods are being knocked down by the second. Even worse, the people who make up those communities are getting pushed out and priced out and leaving by the day. So we’ve decided to put our vision into the web-series form to get the message out and create some buzz around it. We managed to attract some impressive talent along the way, and we plan to reach millions around the world. Won’t you join us?
This trendy topic needs some comedic love. Have you heard of NPR's powerhouse radio show "THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD?" Have you read the informative and passionate blog by the talented Jeremiah Moss called "VANISHING NEW YORK"? We hope to join their ranks and put a creative face on a serious topic with our new series THE HOLDOUTS –adding comedy and bringing gentrification into our story to reach a large-scale viewing audience.
What’s the story? A wrecking ball is about to come down hard on one of the last tenement buildings on a Hell’s Kitchen block in NYC. Kevin Shanahan’s rent-controlled apartment is the last one left in a vacant building ready to be leveled for condos. Each episode centers on Kevin and his battles with everyone else. When Kevin’s landlord offers him a 500K buyout, all his friends and family pressure him to take the money and start a new life elsewhere. But Kevin loves his home and likes to be the lone soldier in his war to save New York City and enlists the help of his roommate, a NYC transplant who loves Starbucks, to join him in his stand against the “enemy.”
We need your help. We have our pilot episode written, a teaser trailer done (check it out above), 2 more episode scripts ready for production and now we need your help in securing funds so we can go to production on at least 3 episodes in New York City this summer to kick things off, finish post production by end of summer and distribute all 3 episodes by late August/early September - getting millions of eyes around the world on the content and building a pretty big following who will be hungry for more episodes and stories!
Let’s take the stand together. Getting pushed out of your home or moving out of a city you love is serious business and we know this series is a people’s movement. We’re going to you for help and to be a part of this because we’ve worked so hard up to this point that we want to make this the most powerful piece of storytelling out there on the subject and we can’t do it alone. We need your support to finish successfully.
Timing is everything. We want to get this out there right away and there is no place better to do that than Kickstarter. Because of the great work we did on the pitch trailer and on the writer's development thus far, we have put together a professional team ready to go and willing to work to get this done on time and on budget. Major shout to our multi-talented editor, Fred Shanahan, who just finished a new series on NETFLIX called COOKED! And to our lead actor Kevin Corrigan who is currently starring in a new SHOWTIME series DICE! Now it’s time for THE HOLDOUTS.
We also believe you deserve to know exactly how your money is being spent, which is why we have provided you with the budget below for a 3 episode shoot. Each episode will be an average of 5-7 min. in length.

Risks and challenges
We understand that there’s the possibility this show could get lost among the thousands of other online videos out there. That’s why we’re committed to doing everything we can so that it doesn’t disappear. We want this show to be accessible to a large audience because we think it’s not only entertaining, but more importantly has a strong message. The challenge is finding the right platform for the show, so that it gets the widest reach. We would ideally like to find digital network distribution and also continue with our grassroots outreach to keep the word out there.
The other, more obvious challenge, is raising enough funds to finish the show. If the quality of our trailer is any testament to what we are able to do with no money, then imagine what we can do with a little bit! With this money we plan to hire a really awesome editor to work full time so that we can start releasing weekly episodes and finish shooting the show. We really think the time is now to put this show out into the world, so please help us make that happen!
