Spring Update!

Posted by clairvoire (Creator)

Hello everyone! I hope you've all had a nice easter and ... tax season? Maybe just a nice easter!

Not much to report this time, but I just wanted to check in with everyone to let you know I'm still alive somehow and still working! Right now, I'm mostly occupied with just staying afloat through some tough times, and I haven't had as nowhere near as much time to work on Sealark as I had hoped. But I am still giving it every free moment I find!

Lots of scenes written out and lots of areas blocked in.  Also a massive amount of stuff was programmed and fixed, regarding the physics and gui mostly.   But unfortunately, I wasn't able to animate much the past few months, so there's not a whole lot I can show this update. Aaaagh and I said I'd have a gameplay video by now too... I completely overestimated my ability to work multiple jobs, and I'm really embarrassed and ashamed!  I promise to not belly-ache too much, but it's been a rocky start to this year.  Working 3 jobs is pretty tough!  Once I reduce it to just 1 nice one though, which will be happening this month I hope, things should pick up again! I just have to keep working towards that, and working hard, and things will turn out for the better, allegedly!

Thank you all for being so patient with me so far, I promise no matter what happens, I'll ultimately finish! I just gotta pull my sorry self together! I'll see you all in May, hopefully with way more stable ground under my feet, and PICTURES. An update without pictures is hardly an update at all aaaaaaa!

Please take care everyone! May your tax refunds be incredible and I'll see you all soon!

Hi Claire! I'm sure you're busy working on this - it's clearly turned out to be more work than you'd thought (especially with stretch goals and so on!) but it would be cool to get a little about where you're at now, as it's been quite a while!

    2. Keshwin Charan on

Can't wait for this game~ I'll keep supporting you as long as it takes! Make sure to take it easy during the tough times. :)

Stay healthy out there, mentally, physically, and emotionally! As much as I want to play your game as soon as possible, I'm much rather hear you complete it over a longer period of time and be healthy than rush a game and overstress yourself for our sake. I look forward to hearing more updates when you get the chance!

    4. Xpgamer7 on

I'm super excited, and belive in you.

    5. Claudia L. Schulze on

you can do it! don't give up!

    6. Allison D on

Seriously, I am so excited for your game! Keep going, don't get discouraged!

    7. Tomi "WHAM" Kähkönen on

Just keep at it and whatever you do: don't burn yourself out! I think we can wait a bit longer and it's completely acceptable if schedules change as these kickstarter projects advance.

    8. Jason Stillion on

As long as you keep posting an occasional, update or even like the simple message as above, I have zero worries. It's done, it's ready, and look forward to it, whenever that is.

You can do this, we all believe in you!!

Wow, Seung Lee took the words out of my mouth. It really is amazing to see how supportive my fellow backers are, I'm extremely proud to be among them. Hang in there and take care of yourself, it is very obvious that you are working very hard and progressing on Sealark as best as you can humanly manage, and you have my absolute faith and trust. Take your time and do whatever it is that you've gotta do to keep on keeping on. Thank you for the update!

Just wanted to point out that one of the most amazing platformers of all time, Cave Story, took Pixel five years to make. I completely get that what you're designing is intensive. I am just happy to see progress is being made :)

I gotta say, you're going above and beyond what most would do... Just keep on plugging away!

    13. RocK_M on

      Agreed w/ Seung Lee!

I've been to other KS that have had meltdowns for less than this! XD

Anyway great to see you hanging in that clairvoire! :D Looking forward when we all get out hands on Sealark! :3

I hope you still enjoy working on sealark.

Oh my gosh, you all are actually absolutely the best! I won't get emotional! (it's too late I am hysterically emotional) Thank you folks so much for stickin' in there! aaagh!

    16. Seung Lee on

Goddamn. Came here to post something nice/an encouraging word because I've come to expect some backers to be raising hell about this or that but instead I find a dozen nice messages commending Clairvoire's effort and transparency. Frederik Vezina's right, these are the best backers in the world. Motherfucking +1 to everyone here
@Clairevoire: We can tell and are well aware you're working incredibly hard, both for us and for yourself. Appreciate the update, love the work ethic, hope everything turns out OK, take a breather =]

I don't care that it taking longer the expected. Just as long as you do a good job and you release when you feel its ready. Don't pull an EA and release because everyone wants to rush one out the door.

Making a game all on your own is an ambitious thing. As long as you never give up, it's fine.

It was indeed a nice Easter!

Thank you very much for the update, Clairvore! Here's hoping everything settles down soon!

Don't beat yourself up. It's okay to have bad times. Please in the future don't just swallow it and publish nothing (for 4 months), but tell us something about the bad (which you did in this update) which doesn't have to be long but every month or so. Thanks.

Aw man no pictures...but I like pictures. And those gif things too, they're even better. Keep chugging along, glad to hear you didn't explode or anything crazy like that.

    22. Tony Puccinelli on

Life is hard, don't beat yourself up! You've got some spark, clairvoire, what you've created already inspires me to make things of my own. I know how hard it is to find time to make something while still making ends meet. I, for one, would totally understand if you need to take a break or step away for a while and come back to it when you've got the job situation figured out. I believe in you!

Man, I was wondering how you were doing just the other day. Good to hear from you!
I know you've been putting a ton of effort into this, and I can't wait to see what it'll look like when it's all said and done! Keep on doing what you're doing, man :)

    25. Pasquale Barilla on

Glad to hear from you. Do your best, take your time. Don't stress it.

    26. Frederik Vezina

Gee, don't you remember? You have the best backers in the world. Take care of yourself and just make sure the game is good, in the end.

Good to hear from you. I'm happy to wait as long as it gets there somehow. Just make sure you don't get so burnt out you have to drop everything. Take care of yourself.
