A 21st Century Jacket? Yes!
Regular winter jackets are boring. They're bulky and you have to wear multiple layers under them to stay warm. What if you could wear a thin winter jacket with no layers and be perfectly warm in even the MOST EXTREME temperatures? Using the same insulation technology NASA uses in their space suits, the Lukla Endeavour Jacket gives you just that.
What makes our jackets special?
We use a little something called aerogel to keep you warm. Aerogel, in geek terminology, is the lowest thermal conductive solid on the planet. Put simply, that means aerogel is the best insulator in existence!
Today, aerogel is used by NASA as insulation in their space suits. It can trap space dust on space shuttles, de-ice aircrafts, and insulate some of the coldest oil pipelines in the world.
Aerogel is also very light. In fact, it would take 150 brick-sized pieces of aerogel to weigh as much as a single gallon of water!
So what does all this mean? When you invest in an Endeavour jacket, you get a thin and warm garment that even the astronauts would be proud of.

THE STORY:
The Lukla team is made up of members who have a thirst for knowledge and a passion for adventure. Members of our team have developed therapeutic treatments for cancer, discovered detection methods for atrial fibrillation, and studied matrix metalloproteinases (yeah, we think it’s a big word too). We've run with the bulls in Spain, scaled mountains in the Swiss Alps, skied throughout the French Alps, windsurfed in Hawaii, and downhill mountain biked in the good ole’ U.S. of A. Uniting our love of science with our desire for adventure, we created Lukla apparel, the 21st century outerwear.
WHY DO WE MAKE OUR OUTERWEAR?
Science gets a bad rap. Many believe science can't be sexy. Well, we at Lukla think otherwise. We appreciate the flowing locks of Albert Einstein and find talks on epigenetics to be stimulating. We believe in challenging the status quo and pushing the boundaries of what is possible. Using the same technology applied by the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) as insulation in their space suits, we made outerwear slimmer, warmer and sexier. Besides, it's the 21st century. Aren't we beyond wrapping ourselves in animal furs and goose feathers?
LUKLA?
Lukla comes from the name of a small village in Northeast Nepal where many adventurers begin their summit of Mt. Everest. To the Lukla Team, the name Lukla resembles the great hunger within man to respond to the challenge of adventure and to go out and meet it.
ENDEAVOUR?
WHAT'S NEXT?
Our team consists of experts in industries ranging from fashion and design to apparel and aerogel engineering.
We are all here to make sure the Endeavour lives up to its name and you get your Endeavour on time.
Here is our plan to achieve that:
March/April: Make tons of new Kickstarter buddies, finalize the engineering and prototyping iterations, quality assurance, product validation
April-July: Procurement of raw materials and components, shipping of aerogel to apparel manufacturer, begin manufacturing
July-October: Conclude manufacturing, shipping of finalized product to distributor
October/November: Delivery of jackets to Kickstarter friends and fulfillment of rewards!
SIZING GUIDE:

To order Sizes XXL or XXXL, you must pledge $15 above the pledge tier amount!
Risques et défis
No one likes to see a great opportunity wasted. The Lukla team has worked extremely hard to get Endeavour ready for Kickstarter and full-scale production, but here are the risks:
MANUFACTURING: Our aerogel and apparel manufacturers are working with large lead times and small manufacturing periods. No matter how much expertise and experience you have, this creates a stressful work environment. To minimize delays on the manufacturing end, we've worked out lead times and manufacturing periods between the aerogel and apparel manufacturers to make for a smooth transition of products, leaving a little extra time just in case.
PRODUCT ADJUSTMENTS: As the Endeavour gets geared up for production, some minor adjustments may be made to best meet your needs. Prototypes will be put through rigorous durability and breathability tests to find what best benefits you. These tests may result in slight modifications of the Endeavour design.
FULFILLMENT: Sometimes things get a little crazy: a supplier misses a deadline, a machine breaks down, or a shipment gets lost. Those things could cause a delay in delivery. To minimize such setbacks, we will be working with suppliers and manufacturers who have a history of delivering excellent products in large quantities.
No doubt there will be some bumps along the road, but any obstacles will be tackled by combining our knowledge of the product with the suppliers' and manufacturers' experience to bring you, the Lukla Endeavour customer, the most awesome jacket you've ever seen.
Any pledge amount brings us one step closer to our goal. Become a part of the Lukla team by backing our project or by helping us spread the word by sharing our page.
It's time to cut the bulk, unlayer your boundaries, and kickstart your next adventure!
