About

By raising $12,000, I hope to turn Intra-net(s) the idea, into Intra-net(s) the small business. What are Intra-net(s) you ask? They are multi-use nets that can be attached to almost anything, and enjoyed pretty much everywhere. What separates Intra-net(s) from other similar products? The answer is that an Intra-net holds up to 6 people (later versions will hold 8-10), it's highly adjustable, and made with friends in mind.

Use them in the forest, near the beach, in your backyard with your kids, or even in a parking lot! Hang your intra-net between two trucks while tailgating. String it up in a forest and read a book. Bring an intra-net to a music festival and share a drink with six or more friends! Intra-net(s) are portable couches. They are elevated platforms for your tent. Intra-net(s) are intelligently designed with the adventurer in mind.

You might be asking yourself, why not just get a hammock? Hammocks are light weight, hold up to two people, and weigh less than three pounds.  Nothing can replace a good hammock, but a hammock can't take the place of an intra-net. Intra-net(s) can fit up to eight people (six average). Intra-net(s) are communal things: they bring people closer, whereas hammocks by their nature separate us.  Intra-net(s) can support a tent where other pieces of gear can not. Theres no more need for an air mattress when you have an Intra-net! Intra-net(s) aren't heavy (4-8lbs), which is also a plus. Perhaps one of the most interesting things about Intra-net(s) is that they can be stacked or tiered (see cover image).

Intra-nets are functional, light weight, and extremely safe. Intra-net(s) are made of a blend of polyester and nylon for maximum durability, low stretch, high water resistance, and protection from UV degredation. Because safety is paramount to the creation of Intra-net(s), only the strongest and most reliable rope on the market is used. Strength and reliability come at a price, however. Through Kickstarter, I hope to raise funds to purchase materials in bulk, which will bring Intra-net(s) to the consumer at a lower price. Kickstarter will also help raise the necessary funds to create a new business and to prepare and secure the required legal documents to form an LLC company.

Intra-net(s) are made by me. The rope is proudly manufactured in the USA by Sterling Rope, and except for the low-friction aluminum rings in each corner, Intra-net(s) are American through and through.

I also want to bring Intra-net(s) to everyone, and not just to my closest friends, which means creating a user friendly web-site that will allow adventurers and casual users from around the world to design and purchase a made-to-order Intra-net. Funds from Kickstarter will also allow me to test my products to their limits, as well as pay for third party testing.

Using Kickstarter, I also hope to raise money to design and develop packaging for Intra-net(s). The first step is to purchase materials for the packaging, and the second step is to tinker with different designs and styles. The third step is to fabricate the packaging and print unique designs on each package that showcase the creative heart of Intra-net(s).

Conservation and supporting the efforts of conservationists is paramount to the future of the Intra-net(s) business. Intra-net(s) are meant to bring you and your friends closer together while outdoors. How can that be achieved unless we support those who work to preserve our outdoor spaces? This is why I wish to create a business that aims to give back from the very beginning. This means that 10% of every net sold will be donated to a center for conservation (e.g. Conservation International, World Wild Life Fund, or The Nature Conservancy). This environmentally and ethically responsible gesture will help conservation groups protect and expand our natural spaces for years to come.

Perhaps most importantly, I hope to use Kickstarter to bring Intra-net(s) to you, the small venture capitalist. By funding Intra-net(s), you can get your own Intra-net! This net will last for years, and provide hours of enjoyment. I have designed multiple Intra-net(s) in the past, and they have provided my friends and I with hours of joy. Whether suspended a few feet high in a forest canopy, or lounging above a sandy beach, Intra-net(s) will bring your outdoor fun to a whole new level. Most importantly, it will bring you and your friends closer together.

Dimensions of light weight net in compression sack not including straps (5L): 5 x 5 x 12in (width x depth x height/ 13 x 13 x 30cm). 5 lbs with straps.

Recommended purchases to go with your net:

Two, 27' x 2" 10,000 lbs Test Heavy Duty Ratchet Tie Down for getting optimum tension for your heavy duty net. 2-4 double/triple locking carabiners (24 kilo newton). Carabiners are for attaching to ends of ratchet straps in place of their hooks (DO NOT use or trust their hooks for life support). Should also include a "Towel Tube" or comparable tree protector kit for protecting the bark/cambium.

Two, 20' x 1" > 2,000 lbs test Heavy Duty Ratchet Tie Down for getting optimum tension for your light weight net.

Where the $12,000 will go:

$7,562: 6 x $471 (light weight net) + 8 x $592 (heavy duty net)

$250: thank you gifts for the supporters of my campaign.

$350: website creation and associated fees

$550: design and fabrication of packaging

$200: new weaving board

$2,000: setting up an LLC and the drafting of legal disclaimers

$1,088: Research and development fund for creating and breaking nets in order to optimize the design and safety of nets to come.

Stretch Goal- $20,000. Will allow Intra-net(s) to pay for third party testing. Third party testing is extremely expensive, but this information will be used to design better nets. These nets will be weighted and stretched to their limit. This empirical data will help us design and create the safest nets possible. $28,000 will allow me to pay for, and maintain a utility patent for my design.

In the future, I will have the resources to make bigger nets, as well as lighter, stronger nets. I also hope to make triangular nets as well. The sky is the limit, and you can help me get there!

I thank you for your support.

Risks and challenges

There are a few obstacles and challenges that Intra-nets may face. They are as follows:
1) There may be delays in the shipment of raw materials, as I will need > 3000 yards of different gauge rope. Solution: there is no real solution. There may be small delays. However, when the material is in, the construction of one net takes one day, so there will be no delay with the assembly/construction.
2) The user may not be familiar with the hanging of an Intra-net. Some technical know-how makes the hanging easier. Solution: an instructional youtube video could be produced to help the user with it's assembly if the project is successfully funded.
3) The quality of the Intra-net is only as good as the quality of the rope, and the hanging of the Intra-net. The producer of the rope, Sterling Rope, has a long history of meeting all technical specifications for life-safety climbing rope. However, the improper use of an Intra-net can result in injuries, and I hope that all users will follow the instructions provided, and hang their Intra-net(s) responsibly.
4) Those who fund either a $470 or $590 net will have to agree to, and sign a disclaimer before they will receive an Intra-net. I stand by my nets 100% as far as their safety and durability, but for the same reason that ladders are risky, my nets are risky too. By following the instructions provided with each net, you can limit this risk and experience the real fun of Intra-net(s), just as I have for years.
