About this project
Our lord, the king, has called a meeting of nobles to determine the fate of our kingdom, come and lend your sword to the cause, join the faction of your choosing, and LIVE the adventure!
Friday, Saturday & Sunday, September 29th through October 1st, 2017 To be held at the Mountain Run Winery, Culpeper, Virginia, USA.
Welcome fellow warriors. If you have ever wanted to jump into the conflict of your favorite book, movie, or game, now is the hour. Fell and Fair is partnering with The Forge Studios to bring you something entirely new. A cinematic experience, an event, like no other. It's "Game of Thrones" come to life, it's "Westworld" for fantasy. It's a Murder Mystery weekend meets "The Lord of The Rings".
A CINEMATIC WORLD
Our goal is to create an immersive world, in a cinematic fantasy universe, to give you an unparalleled experience at the event. To that end we are treating this event like a film and we see your garb and gear as wardrobe for your character, specific to this world and time period. With these efforts and attention to detail we will work to suspend your disbelief, opening up your imagination, and allowing you to become the hero, or villain you've always dreamed of being.
You will be transported to the kingdom of Olaran in the world known as Adrasil, in this fully immersive experience. It is a medieval fantasy world of epic action and adventure.
WHERE & WHEN
The event will take place on the beautiful lands of the Mountain Run Winery. 25 acres of forest and fields located an hour and half outside of Washington, DC, and set against the backdrop of the Shenandoah Valley Region, near Culpeper, VA.
We have scheduled the event for the last weekend in September, when the weather in this location is perfect for battle. Warm days to battle and adventure and cool nights to tell stories around the fire.
You will have the chance to pursue your own destiny in this immersive world. So gather your wits, bring your friends, and meet new ones. Gather all the courage you can muster. We’ll provide the weapons and garb. All you have to do is you prepare yourself for glory.
BASE PRICING & WHAT YOU GET
We will dress the set, the design team of Fell and Fair has created the garb, we’ve carefully selected the weapons and other gear that you will be able to equip yourself with for the adventure.
With careful consideration to give you a truly immersive, cinematic experiential event, we have arrived at a special, Kickstarter only, base pricing for the event of $349. This grants you a full 3 day pass to the King's Court, including accommodation, and everything you will need on your quest.
FOOD & FUN
Your adventure begins with merriment. You will join the King on Friday night at his autumn feast. Food and refreshments will be provided throughout the event. (This is including vegetarian options.)
Should you be inclined to indulge yourself, there will also be specially brewed mead, and wines made available by our wondrous hosts at Mountain Run Winery. In addition there will also be local delicacies, that will be available for a price.
You will be reserved a spot in your factions encampment (bring your own bedding). There will be upgrades available and special reward packages offered where you can actually own one of these functional tents yourself, created by our friends at Mediaeval Miscellanea.
YOUR GARB AND GEAR
You will be issued a finely made Fell and Fair tunic, breeches, belt, and boots in the colors of your faction. As a Noble in the King's Court you are honored to choose a hand weapon, sword, axe, or mace from the King's armory.
If you so wish you may upgrade your status by choosing any of the upgrade Rewards, which will allow you access to titles and garb of a more Lordly status, upgraded heroic weaponry, and even armor.
There are also choices should you wish to own your gear and take it home with you after the event.
As a member of the King’s court you must choose a faction to align yourself with. We have chosen the dynamic leaders of each faction based on their real world experience.

THE STORY OF FELL AND FAIR
Watch to learn how Fell and Fair first began, and how it grew into the community of artisans and experts it is today.
You're already a medievalist, cosplayer, LARPer, involved in the sport/hobby/lifestyle, and want to add your vision to ours. This is a shared reality, it is unscripted, and we see all of you as the contributors, co-creators, and our community. You add to the rich tapestry and together we weave the aesthetic that will create that fully immersive experience.
Yes, you may be granted the right to use your personal kit.
You will need to get the approval of the Fell & Fair team to ensure we keep the continuity of the event.
Any garb, armor, or weapons must be approved and safety-checked prior to taking the field.
You may use your own tents, but your tent or encampment must be of period style and pre-approved before the event.
We are looking to give you the best experience possible and feel that this level of commitment to excellence will ensure that we deliver. To start the approval process all you need to do is send a direct message here on Kickstarter, or email us at contact@FellAndFair.com, and we'll send you the approval application.
WEAPONS & SHIELDS
We are NOT using boffer-style weapons, but the realistic looking weapons and shields from our partners, Calimacil and Iron Fortress. These weapons are incredibly safe while looking much more like the real thing- improving the look of the event and adding to the immersive atmosphere.
Ready to choose your weapon? Want to visit the King’s armory?
You can right now, by going HERE!
This is a fantasy world, but grounded in reality. The guidelines for garb are anywhere between 700-1300 AD. When you chose a faction, note the suggested colors as well as the faction heraldry.
GETTING YOUR GEAR
You will get your gear upon arrival to the event. If you want it shipped to you prior to the event you will incur a secondary shipping cost.
Our event is a cinematic-level experience, and our excellent documentary crew will be filming the whole adventure. This will be released afterwards and we hope will create a whole new genre of experiential entertainment.
We will have nice onsite showers as well as restrooms on location at the winery, and we will supplement the onsite facilities with porta johns. Plan for campsite style facilities.
We plan to run AM and a PM shuttles pick-up (must register first) at Dulles International Airport.
There will be a bazaar where you will find all manner of medieval wonder, with artisans and craftsman invited from far and wide to showcase their wares.
You need NO experience to join us. Just your imagination and your willingness to believe. With that all things are possible.
RULES OF PLAY
The rules are a simple easy-to-learn points based hit system developed by Skip Lipman called The C.O.M.B.A.T. System. (Complete Obligatory Melee Battle And Tactics) The goal was to create rules that anyone can understand and learn in just a few minutes. Weapon classes and what determines a 'hit' are all there, it's just the basics.
Rules can be found HERE!
GUIDELINES FOR THE EVENT
It is our intent that this be a FAMILY FRIENDLY EVENT! There will be intense pretend violence, and fierce competition, but honor and chivalry shall be the personal rule. The experience will include guile and betrayal, mischief and mayhem, but these will be play-acted and pretend. We will have on-site security to help us ensure that we maintain a safe environment for all.
We will have a ZERO HARASSMENT POLICY.
Costumes are not consent.
All are welcome.
We will have an onsite medic, but everyone will be asked to 1) sign a release/agreement, and 2) to maintain their insurance card with them. Alcohol will be allowed, but we can't stress enough that this is a family friendly event.
BY CONTRIBUTING TO THIS KICKSTARTER AND CHOOSING ONE OF THE PARTICIPANT REWARDS, YOU ARE AGREEING TO ABIDE BY OUR RULES.
Age of participation for the overnight event is 18+. However, 16 is the age allowed for a day player unsupervised, with a parental waiver. Under 18s are allowed overnight only with parental or guardian supervision, and parents must also be participants.

Friday evening there will be a grand feast with the king and his court, with continued festivities throughout the evening.
We will get started early, any day players will be able to pick up their garb and gear. There will be a morning refresher on the rules of the event. Unit and weapon training, battles and adventure.

BOARD OF ADVISORS
Risks and challenges
This is a pretty unique idea, but no so unique that we can not pull from our team's skills. We believe in this project and will do our best to see it through.
New ventures can be a complicated and technical endeavor, often unforeseen difficulties will arise, causing budget and scheduling overruns, particularly when complex scheduling & planning are involved. That being said, we are doing a vast amount of pre-planning to be prepared for every eventuality, but will also ensure that we have high quality Production Insurance in place for that “just in case” moment. Our key team members are an experienced group and have successfully completed and released projects, with marketable and award winning efforts. And just in case we've missed something, we have aligned ourselves with a very impressive Board of Advisers that will guide us where we have not been. We have set this task before ourselves and intend to accomplish our goals with your help.
Thanks again, on behalf of all of us!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
