FIRST CHECK THIS OUT
OK NOW WE GOT THAT STRAIGHT CHECK OUT THIS TEXT:
In case you didn’t know, Kickstarter was the engine that got my first feature film, FIRST WINTER out to world. We played 5 sold out shows at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival to a host of great reviews, and it was even named a NY Times Critics’ Pick by Stephen Holden. Since then it’s had a second life on Netflix and Amazon.
Last fall, I shot a new movie. It's called CREATIVE CONTROL and I think it's the best work I've ever done.
But I need your help to finish it...
In Near-Future Brooklyn, an ad exec uses a new Augmented Reality technology to conduct an affair with his best friend's girlfriend....sort of.
With CREATIVE CONTROL, I am trying to push the envelope of what people should expect out of an independent film. It’s a relationship drama, but it’s also a social satire and a science fiction film. And a comedy. It’s shot in black and white on anamorphic lenses, with a formalist rigor and visual intensity rarely seen in indie films. It’s funny and weird and emotional and really intense.
To get the film shot and edited, the Creative Control team has been incredibly resourceful and has depended upon the generosity and support of our New York Creative community. Now, in order to finish it, I’m asking for your support.
Help us create a film unlike anything you’ve experienced before.
We’re currently working on incorporating a large amount of on-screen text, unique user interfaces, but mostly importantly, designing and executing a visionary Augmented Reality “future interface” unlike anything you've ever seen.
The purpose of this Kickstarter campaign is solely to secure the funds needed to complete the cutting edge animation and visual effects work needed to bring the story of Creative Control fully to life.
Effects of this level are generally done for big budget movies. But in Creative Control they are in service of telling a very human, very current, very personal story.
Our first goal of $30,000 will get us substantially through our visual effects (there's over 100 vfx shots). More would take us into sound design and music, more than that would get us to the color grade and sound mix. If by some magical providence, we could raise over $100k, then we’d be able to fund our film festival premiere!
Did I mention that we have an incredible cast? Incredible actors and real-life iconoclasts of the New York comedy, technology, and music scenes:
The internet film community has been the cornerstone of support for my work since the beginning, and I’m asking you humbly to help us realize this new exciting project. If you're a fan of First Winter, or my music video work, or you're interested in Augmented Reality and how its going to change our lives (very soon), or you just love independent film, please support! Even a small amount helps.
Risks and challenges
Since the movie is already shot and edited, this campaign poses a lot less risk than a completely unmade film. But we are venturing into unknown territory with the effects; the technology we're depicting is a few years away, so we're taking some bold steps in imagining what Augmented Reality will be like.
Once we raise this last piece of money, we'll start actually realizing these ideas with animation and design. Even with all of our preparation, there is an aspect of discovery here as we try out different approaches to integrating the AR interface, and figure out what works and what doesn't, both visually and narratively. Our hope is that we may even come up with some stuff that may inspire actual AR development!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
