The "Mark Twain Into Spanish" project will generate six classic Twain books printed in two languages: the original English, along with Spanish translations.
The material will be presented in what I consider to be the best layout for those who know one
language and want to learn the other: paragraph-by-paragraph; a paragraph in English will be followed
by the translated paragraph in Spanish, alternating that way throughout the entire work[s].
The six classic Twain works chosen include three fiction:
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
The Prince and the Pauper
...and three nonfiction:
The Innocents Abroad
Life on the Mississippi
Note: While it is true that there already are Spanish translations of "Tom Sawyer" and "Huck Finn" available, I feel that these are not of the best quality or are as accurately rendered as they should be. I have several excellent translators awaiting the start of this project. I will assign one book to each of them to expedite the project's completion.
Directly related to this project, I have created several multi-language books already, in language pairs of English/French, English/Spanish, and English/Finnish. These include "Don Quixote", "Treasure Island", "Around the World in 80 Days" and several others. Those currently available (and many that are planned) can be seen by downloading this file at dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/yheb0d4817syuxf/fitt.html
Risks and challenges
The risks to this project are small. As I have a number of very talented and willing translators lined up for this project, there should be no problem in receiving good quality and timely translations. The work that I do to assemble these books is time-consuming and tedious, but certainly not "rocket science." I estimate two months at the most for the translations to all be done, and one month tops for the assembling, printing, and shipping.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
