About the project:
Casting Shadows: Extraordinary Tales from New Writers is an anthology of short stories, beautifully illustrated with black and white images. Revolving around the theme of 'haunting', each story takes the reader on a strange and mysterious journey full of unexpected twists -- from family curses to shadow-puppets, from spiteful Welsh grandmothers to mysteriously multiplying piles of seaweed -- that will linger in your mind long after the last page is turned.
Each story in this collection is written by a fresh new voice, selected by our team of editors for their vividness of language, scope of thought and ability to haunt the reader. The stories include:
- 'Bladderwrack' by Pauline Shearer
- 'Forget-me-not' by Donna Painter
- 'Lost Soul' by Lulu Badger
- 'The Bypass' by Liz Crossland
- 'The Ghosts of Havisham Manor' By Rebecca Lloyd
- 'The Inheritance' by Danielle Charles Davies
- 'Shadow Play' by Colin Bradbury
- 'Vivienne' by CH Anderson
Each story is illustrated in hauntingly beautiful black and white images that evoke the imagery and feel of the stories, done by our talented team of illustrators: J. Levang, Fiona Rose Batey and Beth Ford.
We hope to publish the book in digital, paperback and limited hardback editions in time for Halloween of 2013, a perfect time for nestling up by the fire with a collection of haunting tales.
How we will use the funding:
Thus far, Casting Shadows has been a collaboration of highly talented individuals donating their time and energy into the creation of an extraordinary book. Writers, illustrators, copy editors, researchers, and marketers have all spent the last six months working hard to put this book together.
Now we need some financial help in order to take it the last mile: we need to print.
Your generous and gratefully accepted donations will be used to to accomplish the following:
- Design and distribution of e-book edition
- Design, printing and distribution of paperback book
- Design, printing and distribution of hardback book
- ISBN and barcode registration
- Listing with Nielsen's Bookscan
- Cost of book launch event: appetizers, drinks, venue
- Marketing costs
Any profits remaining at the end of the project will go back into Word Machine Press to fund future projects.
Thank you so much for your help, every cent counts!
Risks and challenges
The great benefit of Word Machine Press is that we are a team of passionate individuals each bringing our own strengths and energy to the project. When things go wrong or unexpected challenges pop up, we have not one but sixteen minds and hands to try and make things right. We have already tackled many, many obstacles on the road to getting this book published, and a few more are only par for the course: we welcome them as a chance to learn.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
