A Quick Production Update

Hi all,

There’s a lot of big news for Evil Baby Orphanage this week. First, I want to let you all know that, thanks to your support, EBO will soon be in game stores around the world! I am incredibly excited to start seeing it on shelves, and I want to thank each and every one of you for helping that come to life.

We had to do another print run to fill our orders to brick and mortar stores and there were some slight changes, so I want to let you know about those. First, the version of EBO sold in stores will have an additional option to play to 8 points instead of 10. So, if you would like a shorter game, please feel free to play to 8 points! Second, the cards Big Red Button (one copy) and Arts and Crafts (two copies) will not be in the second print run. Removal of these cards shortens game length and, if you want the same play experience as those buying the game now, you may easily remove those cards before playing. However, you have them as an additional option. Those cards will remain exclusive to the first print run of the game as a special thank you to our early adopters, both through Kickstarter and the DFTBA store.

Unfortunately, we have experienced a delay in the production of some of our stretch goals; namely, the plushy. This will delay our expected delivery date of the stretch goals by three months. It turns out, making plushies was not nearly so easy as we anticipated! Having never produced this particular product before, we needed to open new channels and new contacts; we needed to find people who would be able produce the quality of product that we wanted in your hands. Luckily, that is all out of the way, and plushy production is under way, but it has affected our deadline.

Just to give you an idea of the progress we are making, some production shots of the plushy are attached. (keep in mind this is not the finished product)

At this stage of production the plushy is hand sewn to give us an idea of its size and the amount of materials that will need to be used. Next, templates will be created for the fabric before the plushy is mass produced. Finally, a face (and potentially other details) will be printed on so that he looks as close to the original art as absolutely possible. Finally, he will even have a plastic safety pin holding his diaper together! (Oh, and you’ll notice that’s Julius Caesar for those of you who were curious)

In case you can’t tell, I’m as excited to get one of these as all of you!

Now, I know that all of you are eager to get your EBO swag, (and you deserve it, this kickstarter was a success because of you) but all of the stretch goals will be shipped at once. Piecing out parts of the stretch goals and shipping them separately is simply not financially viable.

However, we want this stuff in your hands as fast as possible, so we will be making up some print-and-play PDFs of the expansions and promo cards and sending them to everyone who would be receiving them as soon as possible. They are designed and playtested, we are simply waiting on a few more art assets and then they will be on their way to your inboxes! This wasn’t something we originally promised, but we feel you guys more than deserve it for all of the fantastic support you have given us.

In the meantime, I always love to hear how people are enjoying the game! So, if you have any comments, questions, or just want to talk about the game feel free to email me: Justin@wyrd-games.net

Until next time, DFTBA.

-Justin

I am quite glad to hear that, as I gave the first copy I received as a gift to my sister, and as we played it I grew quite attached to the Big Red Button. Thank you!

If it's decided that reward levels that don't include the plushy will be shipped early, will it be possible to opt-out of receiving the plushy for those of us who are supposed to get it, but don't really want it?

    3. Creator Patrick on January 16, 2013

Well, this makes sense to those of us who didn't pledge for a plushie... NOT!

    4. Creator Wyrd Miniatures on January 15, 2013

@Kenny B: No, they will not be omitted. All copies of EBO received through kickstarter will be the KS exclusive version. We saved a number of them in the warehouse in anticipation of this.

@everyone else: I will let you know if there are any changes.

Gah...Wish this thing had made $8640 less now...

Will EBO sets in Kickstarter rewards yet to ship have the Big Red Button and Arts and Crafts cards omitted?

Not all that thrilled to hear that I have to wait three more months because of something that I'm not getting from my pledge level, but at the same time I do understand that production issues do happen (and it does say *estimated* delivery) and is outside of my control. That being said, couldn't you just split the shipments up? That way people who pledged below that level would get their items without having to wait and then when the plushies are finished just send them out to those that are getting them.

If I have to wait another three months because of something I didn't pledge to get, I'm not going to be happy about it, but that's what I'm hearing. First world problems and all.

I don't mind waiting until everything I pledged for is ready to ship in one box. In fact, I expect that. However, if I didn't pledge for a plushie, I shouldn't have to wait for all my other items because its not available/ready.

I wouldn't even care if it was a couple of weeks, but three months is too long of a delay for something I didn't even pledge to receive.

Little Caeser is adorable! And if that's the rough cut, the actual is going to be aMAZING!!

    10. Creator Patrick Ballou on January 14, 2013

So, this means that even those of us not getting the Minis or plushie will have to wait for our expansion and card case? Don't personally see sending our stuff as dividing an order, just want to see if you do.
