About

We are developing the only public disaster preparedness app.

In 2011, we suffered a brief, yet eye-opening, example of a potential disaster situation.  The southwestern United States and norther Mexico suffered a complete power blackout for about a day-and-a-half.  No lights, no refrigeration, no internet!  And this was supposedly an accient at a power station miles away.  Now imagine if it was something more powerful or prolonged.

Flooding from rains or hurricanes can shut down a city indefinitely. How long could your family last?

Inspiration

As soon as power was restored, we got to work on our own emergency preparedness needs to make sure we weren't caught off guard again.  If not a power outage, it could be a natural disaster or even something manmade.  We bought a generator, fuel, dry food reserves, and even barrels to store fresh water.  But we quickly realized that not only were our neighbors not doing the same, but they had this notion that because we were building reserves that that meant they had access to those reserves.  This could make for tense relations in the event of an actual emergency.

When disaster strikes, will YOU get to the stores in time before everyone else does?

Solution

This has inspired us to build a tool that not only helps us track our own disaster preparedness needs, but also gets the conversation going with our friends, family, and neighbors to help get their own preparedness underway without labels, awkwardness, or conflict.  This was the birth of PrepTrack, what now has been revealed to be the only such app of its kind to help people assess their preparedness in the event of emergency and help them get resourced - both materially and mentally - to protect their households.

Not all disasters are accidents or acts of nature. Sometimes you WANT to stay home to avoid the public.

Contribution

Here is where you can help out.  Currently we have a website, media assets, and personnel.  What we don't have is the actual app.  This is where you come in!  We are trying to raise funds to pay an app developer to get this app onto the marketplace.  We are building the app to be free because disaster preparedness shouldn't come with a pricetag.  Both through our website and the app we an accept donations to help keep operations afloat.  We are exploring ecommerce solutions to tie into this.

But none of that will come to be without your participation.  Not only do we have some generous and fun rewards set aside for contributors, but simply sharing this campaign and the app/website will help accelerate its creation as well as ensuring our loved ones safety and success.  And when disaster strikes, you don't want to be the only person on your block that has his/her reserves prepared.

"If you give a man a fish, he eats for a day.  If you teach a man to fish, he eats forever."

Don't just teach fishing.  Teach preparedness.  Teach community.  Teach responsibility.

Risks and challenges

Fairly low risk. It's an app, not a nuclear warhead. Just looking to raise funds to pay a professional to do what we can't (programming). If we want a quality product, we don't want amateurs making it.

Small ancillary funds added to the request for the web domain and website assets.
