About this project
Great news! Super Ubi Land has not only caught the attention of Nintendo, they have approved us as official developers for their Wii U console! Nintendo enjoyed what they've seen thus far from Super Ubi Land and we hope you will as well!
The Evil Dr. Terrestrial will stop at nothing to keep Ubi imprisoned on Climate Island. Ubi’s Quest: fight past hordes of enemies, collect the pieces to his spaceship, defeat Dr. Terrestrial, and return safely to his home planet.
Super Ubi Land is a console/PC gaming love-letter to the classic 2D platformers of the early and mid-90s like Super Mario Bros 3, DKCountry, and Kirby’s Adventure. Super Ubi Land is currently being developed for Windows PC, Mac and Linux. A Wii U port is being done by Maestro Interactive Games.
Classic 2D platforming
Just like the good-ol-days! Enjoy the classic 2D platformer mechanics that we loved in the late 80s and early 90s. The game is easy to pick up and play but is tough to master.
Hand Drawn Graphics
Every asset is created by hand with the mighty mechanical pencil!
Rack up massive points by slaying multiple enemies with Super Ubi Land's unique combo system!
Four Exciting Worlds
Traverse the four regions of Climate Island -- fear the Forest World, dread the Desert Land, Shrink in the Snow Realm, and climb the Maniacal Mountain to face Dr. Terrestrial himself! With an adventure so diverse, you'll want to go back and explore over and over again.
Make friends along the way and complete side quests to unlock hidden areas, extra characters, and fresh music!
Remember the great 16-bit tunes of childhood? We do! Our very own Calum Bowen spends his days composing crazy-cool music for Super Ubi Land. Taking influence from Yoshi's Story, Animal Crossing, the Katamari series, Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and more, SUL's soundtrack blends the catchy themes of the old with the creativity and production values of the new to form a distinctive sound which perfectly compliments the art and gameplay of this colorful project.
Secret Cheat Codes?
Who was the first guy to figure out that you could fly above the door in dungeon one and get the warp flute? And how did it spread to every 90s kid everywhere? We have no idea! But we're going to find out through Super Ubi Land.
Explore the world and discover hidden Easter eggs, sneaky cheat codes, and super secret doorways. No... No warp flutes... Sorry...
Battle against terrifying bosses! Make sure to rack up as many 1UPs as you can or else it's be back to the beginning of the world if you get a Game Over!
A Platformer with a Story!
Ubi's story will be told through beautiful hand-drawn illustrations!
There will be some cool cameos within the Super Ubi Land world! And show some support for our friends at AckkStudios! Be sure and look for Ubi in AckkStudio's "Two Brothers" for the Wii U. Thanks, guys!
Andrew 'DatBoiDrew' Augustin is the artist and programmer of the game making duo of Notion Games LLC. Andrew has worked at Edge of Reality as 'World Builder' and 'Concept Artist' for "The Sims 3 Pets" (EA 2011) and soon after founded Notion Games LLC to create games of his own. He has created Up Up Ubi and is also working on Team Notion. Andrew's art style is composed of 90s Cartoon Network and Manga.
Matthew Jones Matthew Jones is a graduate of University of South Florida with a degree in Professional Writing, Rhetoric, and Technology. Not only does he write all the words that appear in the game, but he also writes all the tedious beaureaucratic stuff that you'll never see (funny enough, he did not write Drew's or Calum's bios). He and Drew have been working together since 2009 and is excited about bringing SUL to life.
Calum Bowen is an award-winning composer and graduate of the University of Sussex. He has extensive experience writing for film, theatre, concert and, of course, games. He has provided musical service to games such as: Up Up Ubi, Super Ubi Land, Two Brothers and Probability Zero.
Below you can stream the Super Ubi Land EP, a selection of tracks from the soundtrack, which will be immediately available to download for free to anyone who pledges $10 or more. With bonus sheet music inside and 3 exclusive tracks (not in the set!), this is our little gift to anyone who's kind enough to help make our dreams come true!
We are trying to keep the costs as low as possible!! We will need $3,500 to complete the base game and ensure that it's working properly on PC. But we'll need more to ensure that it's working properly across the platforms we plan to develop for. BUT we cannot forget about the deductions! After the deductions that Amazon, Kickstarter, and taxes will take (which is estimated about 35-40%) we will need $5,000 to ensure that we actually get $3,500 towards development.
We have set up additional goals after the initial $5,000 that if reached, will allow us to add more content into the game. Some goals will also allow us to do things like attend conventions and promote Super Ubi Land. If we go past our max goal we will ensure that the money will be put into the project by either applying it to the rewards, Wii U porting, promotion, more easter eggs, costumes, or music that'll heighten the Super Ubi Land experience.
Super Ubi Land's tech demo has maintained the TOP 5 spot on the SCIRRA Arcade since it's initial release (July 2012)! With over 34,000 plays we are happy to see that people enjoy the tech demo so much! We have made MAJOR improvements on the game over the past 6 months so we hope that people will truly enjoy the final experience!
Can Ubi count on you to make it safely back to his home planet? Thanks for checking out the Super Ubi Land kickstarter! We appreaciate the Support!

Risks and challenges
With any project, there will always be risks and challenges. We are going to list some major risks involved and explain how we plan to conquer/overcome them.
Game creation is a challenging process. It takes tons of dedication, time, and energy. As a team who is no stranger to the game development scene, we understand the challenge that comes with this profession. We have completed projects under our belts (The Sims 3 Pets, Up Up Ubi).
Notion Games is a small indie team composed of 3 members (with 1 member doing the art and the programming). This is our first console-like experience and we are doing great thus far!
Team members come and go... Our previous project, Team Notion, was a victim to this. Our intial programmer for the project had left the indie game scene altogether leaving the rest of the team to create games without a programmer. That's where Andrew has stepped in. Andrew is the founder of Notion Games LLC, the artist for Team Notion (and Super Ubi Land), and he has also picked up learning programming to ensure the development of these projects continue. He has managed to build Super Ubi Land from scratch as a practice project (which got the attention and approval of Nintendo) and now Super Ubi Land is where it's at now. Andrew is applying all of his experiences over to Team Notion and continuing the game's development. Andrew, Calum, and Matthew have been working together on projects for years and are the core members of Notion Games LLC. No one is leaving anytime soon.
Creating enough animations and music is a challenge but with Andrew's background in art and Calum's background in music composition, that shouldn't be too much of a problem. If things happen to get out of hand, we will definitely hire assistant artists and composers to help out (granted we have enough financial backing).
Another risk of game development are delays. They're pretty much a part of the game making process. As a small game development studio, we really want to make the best game we possibly can with the limited resources that we have. Reasons for possible delays include adding additional content for players to enjoy, fixing unexpected bugs, porting issues, hardware failure and loss of digital assets, and more. We have backup hard drives, online storage accounts, and other protective measures to lessen then chance of delays (excluding the process of adding additional content for players to enjoy).
We are working on this game as much as we possibly can and will ensure that we give it our best shot to bring you guys an experience that you can enjoy.
If you have any questions/concerns please drop a comment or email Andrew (Founder) at AndrewA@NotionGames.com
