It's a simple patent pending system that allows you as a rider to quickly remove your fins on your kiteboard or wakeboard without any tools. Replace your existing fin screws with our pins, adjust to fit your board and snap it on. The Quikfin will be made with glass filled nylon so it is durable and it will be stiff enough to pull the fins tight to the board. The pins will be machined stainless steel and come with either an M6 or 1/4-20 thread pattern.
What others are saying
We've been in touch with some of the biggest best names in the industry and
have had excellent response and feedback. With the explosion of cable parks worldwide we see a viable market for the Quikfin system.
Our aim is to have this into full production for the 2014 season. We will make sure you Kickstarters are happy and taken care of first and foremost!
Now is your chance to be
first in line right out of the gate and help us get it off the ground!
We really appreciate your help and look forward to providing a cool new
Over the past couple of years we've tried many different iterations and ideas but in the end this final simple design was the ticket. It has the lowest profile and easily slides onto the pins. You can see where the pin heights need to be set and when it snaps into place it is solid and not going anywhere. There are no sharp edges to catch and to remove and install takes only about 10 seconds!
Take a look at a few of our original prototypes. In total we've designed and built at least 15 different versions and variations of each!
We were not happy until it had a good solid lever action that pulled the fins snug to the board. It also had to snap into place and not be able to come off without effort and lose the fin. The design then had to be as low as possible and with no sharp edges.
The colors we are offering are a choice of red, blue, green, yellow, pink and orange or any combination of these colors for the levers and the bases.
With fins option
For those of you who don't have the 1/4-20 or the M6 thread pattern, or maybe you want a new set, we have a package of four Slingshot 2.0 G10 fiberglas fins that will come with the 1/4-20 Quikfin pins.
Who we are
Wade Hammerstrom is a Design Engineer for an electric utility. In his spare time he is an entrepreneur, inventor, electrician and self taught web designer/ programmer. He is also an avid kiteboarder who hated having to use a screwdriver to remove his fins.
Lorin Erickson is a successful entrepreneur and is familiar with what it takes to start a company and successfully grow it and keep the customer happy. He is also an avid kiteboarder and wakeboarder.
What the funds are for
First of all we need to get a mold built and that takes a pretty healthy investment. We want quality material and quality suppliers and vendors ,but with a large enough order that we get the best value for us and you. We will find the right marketing and packaging strategy to fit the quality and image we are trying to present.
We believe in this, are passionate about it and will stand by it.
Production and Fulfillment
Step one is to have the injection molds built for the plastic injection process, one for the Quikfin body and one for the Quikfin lever. The molds are a CNC machined part and is one of the most important parts of the production process. This will take approximately four to six weeks, allowing for some extra final "tuning" to make sure the production model looks and operates to our specifications. Along with the mold we will be approving the manufactured stainless steel pins that replace the factory screws.
Once we have approved the mold and the pins, the next step will be the production of the Quikfin. Once we have approved the mold and we are sure the parts assemble correctly, operate correctly and the quality is correct the production is expected to take another 4 weeks to complete. Delivery of the products to us is expected to take up to two weeks.
While the mold is being built we will also be creating the packaging for the product which is to be a cardboard header with a packaging bag. The same company that is producing the parts will be assembling and packaging them for us so when we receive the final product from them it will be complete.
All total we have allowed ourselves 12 weeks for us to receive the full shipment. Our sources are reliable and we have experience working with them. We know their work is quality and their service is excellent. We hope to have everything completed before then but have allowed some time for incidentals that can happen in the creation process. Our target is to start shipping your Quikfin to you at the beginning of May to be ready for the new season!
Risks and challenges
We understand that with any new product there can be challenges. We expect there to be samples after the molds are built that we will need to verify and correct. Fortunately the Quikfin is a relatively simple product and our suppliers are familiar with our expectations so the specification process should be minimized. We feel we have allowed ourselves enough of a buffer for any issues that may arise and will do our best to overcome it if it happens. We will keep you posted on the process as it moves along regardless. Thanks for your support!
The pins are set by hand for the correct depth to depth when you first mount the Quikfin on the board so there is a wide margin on the pins to allow varying board thicknesses. They are rarely tightened the full depth in the fin and there needs to be a minimum of 3 threads binding in the fin to assure a solid connection.
