Hello, friends! Thanks for listening! Here's more about supporting the post-production for my solo piano CD True Blue Waltz:
GOAL REACHED BUT PROJECT STILL OPEN FOR FUNDING: Even in this season of gratitude, I'm more than overwhelmed with the quick response to my kickstarter for True Blue Waltz! Any additional pledges will be used for the project--to repay my loan for recording expenses, to fund a second printing, and to publicize the CD to a larger audience (i.e., NOT for Prius, new Steinway piano or vacation in France!). Many thanks for your pledges!
ABOUT WALTZES AND AIRS: For me, waltz music calls up joyous memories of waltzing at community dances--romantic, flowing, earthy, passionate, and friendly occasions, where all have been welcome, graceful or not. Many wonderful new tunes have appeared from the wellspring of this community. Traditional airs give instrumentalists or singers room to express a story in a personal way, without being tied to a pulse.
ABOUT TRUE BLUE WALTZ: My new CD salutes the many dancers, for whom I've played over the years, and celebrates this current explosion of new waltz tunes. At the same time, it is a snapshot of my evolving playing style and my exploration of new genres in my solo concerts. I have chosen favorite waltzes and airs from near and far, many by contemporary tunesmiths, such as True/Blue Waltz, by Seattle musician David Cahn. My free interpretations of these tunes have been influenced by the space and breath I've developed in my work with Ken Burns. I've played some waltzes as airs--and some airs as waltzes ... I have started with bare-bones tunes and, through my variations, aimed to set scenes, create moods and tell stories. Some moments are contemplative and intimate; others more expansive and orchestral. I hope the waltzes will convey the spirit of the dance (and perhaps inspire you to seek out a dance evening) and that both the airs and waltzes will take you on your own heart's journey.
YOUR PART: YOUR pledge will help fund the post-production for True Blue Waltz, which will be on my own recording label, dependent on YOUR funding. Thanks to Grammy-winning engineer Charlie Pilzer's help, I've finished most of the recording and editing; with YOUR help, I can complete the CD cover, print the first run of CDs, pay initial royalties to the composers, and release True Blue Waltz by the end of this year, and any additional funds raised will be used for promotion. YOU can pledge as little as $5--or you can pledge $25 and receive a signed CD, when it first comes out. You can choose larger rewards, such as a house concert in your home, or a home-cooked meal at my house. But you will also be supporting some talented composers. And you'll be investing in my own artistic journey--helping me develop my music, grow my audience, and expand my performance and teaching opportunities.
HOW TO PLEDGE: I've pledged for other kickstarter projects, so I know it is easy to just click the button for your preferred pledge, and then kickstarter will take you through the rest of the process. Amazon.com will process your pledge--and then deduct the amount from your credit or debit card IF (and only if) I successfully raise the entire amount (or more) in 30 days.
Thanks so very much for all your support for True Blue Waltz and my music! I hope to see you at a concert or a dance!

Many thanks to: engineer Charlie Pilzer (http://www.airshowmastering.com); videographer Matt Ober, with the help of Carol Ober (my sister and one of my favorite waltz partners); Edmund Robinson (my husband--and another of my favorite waltz partners); stained glass artist Laura Mentor (for the True Blue Waltz CD cover art: http://www.lauramentor.com); and Hal Ober, Charles Schwab, Vincent Pepper, Country Dance and Song Society Director Rima Dael, lydia ievins, Andrea Larson, Genevieve Dionne, Tim Knight, Mitchell Kossak, and countless others, for their advice and support. Many thanks to kickstarter! And thanks to you all!
Risks and challenges
Because of the late timing of the release of this kickstarter video (due to the havoc caused by hurricane Sandy), the CDs might not be ready until just before the Christmas holidays--or possibly not until early January. But the digital downloads should be available on time. The music is all recorded and mostly edited, and the cover being designed. So, the True Blue Waltz CD is well underway. I'm experienced with the process of making a CD--I have released three solo CDs, one of them on my own label, and I've performed on over forty CDs. So, with your help, I can move forward with True Blue Waltz!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
