About this project
My name is Daniel da Costa...
Let me tell you a bit about myself and how I started making my lamps.... I studied Fine Art in Bristol, in the United Kingdom, graduated in July 2011. For a solid year after this I painted everyday in an attempt to sell some artwork and make some form of living...Having sold about two paintings!!..I was looking for something to brighten things up a bit.
So 'R E Z A' my furniture design company sort of sprung out of a desire to push my creative interest in art into something more practical and useful.
About this time last year I was offered work with a carpenter and during my free time I was able to make use of his tools and fascilities which eventually resulted in the initial sketches for my Lemonade Lamp.
I wanted to produce a lamp that fitted in with my eclectic collection of furniture, So it needed a timeless look and it all started with a few bits of wood and a lemonade bottle to simulate the shade, HENCE THE NAME.
After well over a year of meticulously working with wood to produce a prototypes, I am finally happy to release the glorious finished thing in all its beauty (exclusively on Kickstarter for these first edition lamps).
My solid oak, oil finished lamps are lovingly hand made to the finest quality in my studio here in Hampshire, I use traditional woodworking methods alongside metal spinning techniques to produce the shades and bases.
PRODUCTION PROCESS FOR THE LAUNCH:
STAGE 1: Sourcing materials and preparing materials for working. (planing wood, spinning shades and bases). (4 days.)
STAGE 2: Wood working, Shaping the frames, routing the grooves for the cables, and all wood detailing, lacquering, powder coating of shades and bases. (7 days)
STAGE 3: Assembly of lamps with all electrical wiring, testing, packaging with specialist foam. (3 days)
I cannot put into words the time and care that goes into the finish on these, they are simple, well executed, beautiful and built to last and are only available exclusively to you through Kickstarter for these 1st editions
I am looking to raise £5,000 to launch my first large production of my Lemonade Lamps and get R E Z A of the ground. I am therefore offering you the opportunity to snap one of these up as a 1st edition piece. Each lamp will be hand made to your specifications and delivered to you with a certificate of authenticity to declare its 1st edition status, you will get your item (Lamp, Limited Edition Lamp, pencil pot, etc) 'within' two months from the successful funding (fingers crossed) of this project.
These stylish and original pencil pots are produced using recycled flek rubber and are all individually stitched by hand. These have only ever been produced for my own personal use and will also be offered to you as limited edition 1st issue pieces with a certificate of authenticity.
I would like to thank anyone that shows interest in what I am doing and I cannot explain how far your donations will go.
With many thanks
Daniel da Costa
Risks and challenges
One things that always proves challenging is:
Due to the hand made nature of my lamps, production takes time . But I do fully believe that with your help in backing this project by investing in one of my lamps, I will be able to improve this and look to employ help in the wood finishing process, as this is the most time consuming aspect involved with production at this moment in time.
