One out of three pets will get lost in their lifetime and only 10% are ever found. Replace your old dog tag with a new smart one to prevent yours from getting lost! There are already a great number of tools out there that promise to help find your pets when they get lost… so, why do we need another one?
- GPS devices are bulky and expensive. Worst of all, the battery life only lasts a few days; they only work if you remember to charge the battery and attach them to your pets.
- Microchips are passive and only useful if someone who has a scanner catches the lost pet.
- Other tracking devices are not pet-specific and don't always meet the needs of pet owners.
DOTT: The Smart Dog Tag was created by a group of pet lovers to provide an affordable and active solution to help you locate your pets if they ever get lost. It uses Bluetooth® Smart technology paired with the DOTT mobile app to provide a community of people who can help you find your lost pets.
DOTT has no monthly fee and a long battery life; It was designed to be a normal part for your pet's everyday life. It sets up a virtual leash with your phone and it alerts you if your pet breaks the leash. You can also create a pet owner group by adding all your family members and share the leashing function and pet profile with everyone in the group.
Step 1: Attach a DOTT to your pet’s collar. Pair it with the DOTT mobile app to convert your phone into a virtual leash.
Step 2: If your pet ever breaks its virtual leash, you will be notified immediately.
If you have created a pet owner group, it will alert you if no one in the group is leashed to your pet.
Step 3: DOTT sends a signal up to 350 ft radius, equivalent to 21 standard basketball courts. When your pet passes anyone with the DOTT mobile app, you will automatically be notified of your pet’s last known location.
Step 4: The DOTT mobile app will notify you when your lost pet is nearby. It will also assist your search with tracking analytics.
By simply downloading the DOTT mobile app, your phone becomes an extra set of eyes and ears to help other pet owners locate their lost pets. The app is free on iTunes and Google Play for anyone who wants to help find lost pets!
Three years ago, DOTT co-founder Wade and his wife, Florence, rescued a puppy from their local shelter and named her Ginger. They instantly fell in love with her and did everything they could to keep her safe — they got her a collar, a dog tag, put her through training classes, and even got her microchipped. Despite their efforts, Ginger managed to escape.
Wade and his wife frantically began searching for Ginger, but she was nowhere to be found. They drove around the neighborhood, desperately hoping to be reunited with her. Finally, after about 3 hours of searching, they found her on an adjoining street happily trotting home.
From that day on they were too nervous to leave her alone. They began looking into GPS trackers and other loss prevention methods. She already had a dog tag and was chipped, but microchips are passive and only useful if someone sees or catches her, which doesn't help since she shies away from most people. GPS trackers were too big for the 25lb Ginger, confusing to put on, difficult to maintain, and relatively expensive (about $100+ and $20+ a month for the service fee). It just didn’t seem fair that they couldn’t find an affordable solution to keep a member of the family safe.
This is why Wade and the DOTT team got together to make DOTT. They never wanted another pet owner to worry about losing their furry loved ones and wanted to do their part to prevent others from going through temporary or permanent pet loss.
Join us in saying "no more lost pets" by pledging $40 to receive a DOTT tee and to help DOTT create an active community of people who help find lost pets.
Our Mission Statement is simple but bold: No more lost pets.
DOTT: The Smart Dog Tag has already been successfully received in Hong Kong. DOTT was selected as the technology service provider for the biggest pet event, Dogathon, held at Hong Kong Disneyland in Jan 2015. DOTT created an official mobile app and provided Bluetooth Smart solutions for over 3,500 pets and participants. We also worked with the SPCA and various rescue groups and are continuing to grow throughout Asia. With that being said, we already have a functional product and technology experience.
Through Kickstarter, we aim to bring our product to the US in an impactful way by building a community of people who will be active and supportive in helping others find their lost pets — even before the product launches! That way, when your DOTT arrives, it will prevent you from losing your pets while providing the insurance of community support in case you do.
Risks and challenges
A campaign with just an idea is always risky to fund. Here at DOTT, we have already completed the first iteration of the app and our product that is already being sold in Hong Kong. We have a great technology partner (Vizz Group) that has been creating mobile applications and doing Bluetooth 4.0 and beacon projects throughout Hong Kong since 2002, giving our engineering team full technology support.
We guarantee the product will work and deliver on time. But for it to really do what we want, we need to tap into the community of pet lovers and request help from our friends and yours, to build out this network. Since this is being built for YOU, your feedback on how to improve the service and what you want will be vital.
We will continue to improve DOTT, making it better and enriching the app with more and more functions. But only you can help us reach our goal to create a global platform where pet owners and friends can actively help each other to find pets and prevent heartache.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
