Viva La Casa

Part documentary part celebration, Viva La Casa will tell the story of how The Casa emerged from the 1995-98 sacked Liverpool Dockers dispute, when 500 dockers refused to cross a picket line.

Interspersed with footage from the sold-out benefit concert, 'The CASA Solidarity Show' featuring comedians John Bishop, Ricky Tomlinson, Chris Cairns, Mark Steel and Neil Fitzmaurice.  Plus music from John Power and The farm.

The film will be presented by Daily Mirror columnist Brian Reade.

What do we need the money for?

This is a start up fund for the film - £4,000 covers our initial costs, pre production and the filming of the Casa benefit concert at the Liverpool Philharmonic.

What’s the film about?

The film is about The Casa today and will feature the people who work, use, and support The Casa and how it came into existence through the monies donated from the 1999 "Dockers" film written by Jimmy McGovern, the sacked dockers and their partners.

The film shows how The Casa has gone on to effect positive change and become a centre for social justice amongst the wider community, how it acts as 'a house of radical stimulation', an arts venue and the site of the UNITE's Community branch.

It's a film about solidarity and triumph in the face of adversity.

Who’s making the film?

Liverpool film company, Tabacula, in association with The Casa, are making the film.

What’s it for?

To tell the story of The Casa but also to raise awareness of the work it does.

Get behind this film and support this symbol of solidarity and resistance.

Premiere of the film at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on 4th September 2015.

Tickets are available from the Philharmonic box office or online at: www.liverpoolphilharmonic.org/boxoffice

The film will be available to buy or rent online from 5th September, but here's your opportunity to get in early.

Risks and challenges

We feel we have everything in place to complete the film and deliver all the rewards for our backers - implementing film downloads and organising the film premiere are things we have done many times before, and successfully. However we are well aware there are forces out of our control. But we promise our backers that we will endeavor to complete the project and make good on our rewards regardless of barriers put in our path.
