The Jalapeño Beat Maker has two modes to ride with:
1) Multi-Track Mode
The Jalapeño Beat Maker mixes with up to 4 track layers (e.g. Drums, Guitar, Bass, Vocals, etc.) of your choice made by Beat Farm’s “farm-ily” of artists. The layers are synced so that you’re ALWAYS IN RHYTHM, ALWAYS IN TUNE!
It's also great for musicians! Create your own layers and upload them to your smartphone. Make custom tracks and ride to your own rhythm!
2) One-Track Mode
Yes, it works with your personal library of music too! ONE-TRACK MODE is in an early beta stage. Join us in shaping where this version will go next! Check out the video below for some of the ideas we're currently playing with!
Make dope video edits of your session with music you actually made from your runs. Just export your beats, drop them into your favorite video editing software, and align it to your video for a custom soundtrack!
Snowboarding is only the tip of the iceberg! Customize your settings in the Beat Farm app to make beats for all types of sports and fun activities!
Invent your own use. Take your creativity to the next level!
Our team first met at the University of Pennsylvania’s IPD graduate program. Together, through extensive user research, countless design/hack sessions, and in-field testing, we created the real, working prototype you see today.
The printed circuit board (1.2" x 1.9") seen below has been fully designed, and is being assembled and fine-tuned for production at ETEMCO in Lancaster, PA -- USA! Currently, the software has been developed for Android. Software development for iPhone (iOS) will be completed for product launch in October, 2014.
We’ve been working on this concept for the past year and a half. The Jalapeño Beat Maker you see in the video is a real, working prototype. With your support, we can make original beats across the world! While we’re close to entering production, your contribution will help fund:
- PCB (printed circuit board) parts and assembly
- Injection mold tooling and part production
- Packaging and additional fulfillment expenses
There are so many ways to take the Jalapeño further! Endless combinations of motions and music effects. Limitless ways to be creative! Action sports is where we are focused now, but the way you make your music is entirely in your hands!

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Similar to a Beat Farm song creation, everyone's smartphone is unique. To account for the changing landscape of smartphone devices, our team is testing old and new models of smartphones for the widest range of compatibility. On the Android platform, we quickly encountered media class updates and were able to develop for them without delay. Compatibility testing will continue throughout all final product fulfillment.
One other significant challenge is designing for manufacturability. To estimate the cost and timeframe for production precisely, we've received quotes from countless manufacturing facilities (PCB, Injection Mold, Urethane Cast) across the country. Through this process, we've learned how to better design the Jalapeño Beat Maker for reliable and efficient production, as well as account for the lead time necessary to source all parts and tooling. Further, we've elected to offer one color for the product, to ensure the fulfillment is timely for all orders.
We hope you join us for this adventure. To -- BE THE BEAT.

Yes. The track in the video is real, not a simulation. A working prototype is stuck to his board. The data from his movements was saved in the app, and matched to the video with his corresponding music mix.
