If the project funds, the book will include artwork by Nicolás Giacondino inspired by the Knaves theme!
Our goal is to produce a top-quality book with bestselling and award winning authors, paying them a professional rate (plus more if we reach our author raise stretch goal). We already have first drafts of the stories in hand, and cover art is complete. Once this project funds, we have streamlined our process in order to get books into the hands of backers as quickly as possible. Our experienced design team is in place, and we’ve kept rewards simple to lower risks involved with fulfillment.
Are you ready to see the world through darker eyes?
$14K – We'll raise the author rate to 10 cents per word!
- $16K – We'll add artwork to the book, which means an image for each story in the anthology.
Risks and challenges
Q: What is a Tuckerization?
Tuckerization is the act of using a person's name as an in-joke or reference in a story. For the Knaves Tuckerizations, only the name can be specified, and must be approved by the Outland Publications staff.
Q: Can Outland Publications handle this project?
Outland has run or managed a number of Kickstarters and we've learned a lot from them (frequently the hard way). We have a new, experienced, project management team, with Kickstarter fulfillment history and reputation. This is a simpler project with some nuances, but we're prepared to handle them, and we're shooting for the same exceptional success we've already had!
Q: What if the text isn't finished?
A: Everyone we're working with is a professional. There's no risk of text or art not being done. That being said, if the worst happens, we have back ups identified.
Q: What if the complexity of the project overwhelms Outland?
A: We have straight forward pledge levels to make it easy to manage, and we've budgeted our stretch goals up to our cap. In order to keep the project manageable for our small team, we've elected to have no stretch goals.
Q: Increase in shipping costs?
A: Shipping costs constantly rise, and while we've projected them to the best of our abilities, there's not a lot we can do if they change. However, due to the limitations on the size of our product, we're confident this won't be an issue.
Q: What if something happens to the principals?
A: If something were to happen to anyone on the project, we've identified our backups, and our team is spread all over the world. It'd take a really big asteroid, zombie apocalypse or alien invasion to wipe us all out. The files and plans have been communicated to the whole team, and a new project lead (who has been identified) will step up.
