As I say in the video, all my plays center on LGBTQ characters in historical settings. I'm very fond of pointing out that we have always existed, even if our stories have not always been told.
I don't think I'm alone in my belief that these stories not only deserve to be told, but are fascinating and interesting in their own right.
Can't You Tell! is a fun romp. I have great love for every character's growth, pain, and redemption. However, this Kickstarter is about so much more than just this one production. My hope is that this play will be the first of many like it, created by me and others! I hope that this shortened Can't You Tell will pique interest in the full version of this play, as well as in all the other stories I have to tell. This festival could be an excellent opportunity, and I plan to show up prepared and polished.
Your rewards are coming along!
Every backer (starting at $5.00) will receive a button like this!
The tote bags for the VIP tiers will have this stamp image on them!
For personalized VIP tier, keep an eye on my updates to meet the characters! One of those characters will write you a personalized, handwritten thank you note!
Risks and challenges
Theatre is notoriously unpredictable.
That said, I am uniquely qualified to bring this project to fruition. Not only do I have a degree in theatre performance from a top conservatory, I have put my degree to use by self producing a play, and a reading before this larger project.
Here’s a breakdown of where your money will go:
Performance space rental (with insurance) = 1100
Rehearsal space: $30~35 per rehearsal x 4days a week x 3 weeks ~ 400
7 actors x $50 x 5 performances = 1750
7 actors x $10 x 8~12 rehearsals (not everyone will be called to every rehearsal) = $560~$840
Props budget = $50
Puppet designer and budget = $200
~~~~~ stretch goal territory ~~~~~
Director = $200
Costume designer + costume budget = $300
If you can't see the play, then your support makes it all the more likely that I will have future productions for you to see at another time. So I thank you all the more for your support.
As Can't You Tell is to be part of a festival, the performance space is already booked. I have only to pay for it. The play is written, some of the casting is done, now all I need to do is buckle down and bring it to life.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
