“I’m going to fly again,” Kwap said. “Hold tight!”
“We’ll be seen!” Tirrsill cried.
She glanced at the thundering sky vehicle, and Kwap hoped he was right in suspecting the thing wasn’t particularly maneuverable.
“I don’t have a choice. If we stay here, we’ll be found! Hang on!”
Before he could lose his nerve he launched, beating his wings to gain enough altitude to clear the wires along the vehicle track. He didn’t look back, putting all of his effort into flying. He’d never felt gravity like this before. His heart pounded, beak wide open as he gasped for breath. For the first time since he was a juvenile just trying his wings he thought he was going to plummet from the sky. Except now, instead of landing on a jungle floor covered with loam, he would be ground into fertilizer by the packed transports beneath him.
Stranded--alone on an alien world, where the very air is toxic.
Captive--held by terrifying, ruthless creatures that can't be understood or reasoned with.
The only way to survive is to learn, even if what they learn is worse than anything they thought possible. And the only way to live is to somehow find a way back home.
Griffin Ranger: The Monster Lands continues the story begun in Griffin Ranger: Crossline Plains, as ranger Harrell seeks to discover the fate of his missing daughter and the other creatures taken by the greenies.
Harrell White-shoulders and his companions find themselves trapped in a hostile, unfamiliar world: our own Earth. A world of thin, polluted air, deadly cars, and dangerous xenophobic natives.
Harrell is a prisoner of the greenie’s monstrous allies, where nothing is certain except that nobody leaves their clutches alive.
Investigator Kwap and Tirrsill are left utterly alone, fighting starvation, lethal disease, and the strange land’s terrifying inhabitants. Hunted at every moment by enemies who won’t stop until both of them are dead.
Harrell and his companions struggle to endure captivity -- witnessing unspeakable atrocities, fighting back any way they can -- all the while knowing time is running out for all of them.
Their only hope lies with Kwap and Tirrsill, who not only have to survive in a land determined to kill them, but outwit their enemies and find Harrell and the other griffins before it's too late.

Welcome to the Kickstarter 2.0 for Griffin Ranger: The Monster Lands!
Editor: Sandra Childress of Campbell's Book Soup (People who supported the last Kickstarter will note the change of editor. This is due to the previous editor Joshua Essoe being so successful he had no free time to take on another project until next year!)
Publisher/printer: Furplanet. The publisher for the previous volume and most of my in-print comics; I have a long-time professional relationship with them. They can be found at numerous conventions as well as online.
Video music: Ben Gibson. A graduate of Musician's Institute in Hollywood, Ben currently works as a stage and studio musician in the Durango, Colorado area.
Here are the rewards-- lots of original art, backer-exclusive art and signed books! Illustrations you won't be able to get anywhere else. Limited-edition promotional cards. Additional copies of book 1 to give to friends and fellow griffin enthusiasts. More bang for your buck, and more griffin art than you imagined!
For overseas backers, I apologize ahead of time for the sky-high postage costs, but mailing to any place outside the U.S. is just ridiculous.
The main stretch goal will be illustrations by artist Amy Fennell, who did the awesome pictures for book 1!
All the funding goes directly to book production-- editing, print costs, and cover art, with the extra going to cover taxes and fees.
Risks and challenges
Griffin Ranger 2: The Monster Lands is complete except for the editing, proofreading and the cover artwork. The book will go to print once these have been completed. The ebook edition will be formatted and published at the same time as the hardcopy edition. There may be some minor delays in the reward artwork, depending on my schedule, but I don't anticipate any major problems. (knock on wood.) As the backers of the first volume know, I worked hard to complete the book and send it out on schedule. I have confidence that this project will go smoothly as well. I appreciate the faith and support from my backers and will work hard to make sure you get your copies in a timely fashion.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
