The book is coming, I promise you.

Hello all,

I know it's been a while since I last spoke to you.  I also know you were promised books as early as July.  The project is alive and well, and nearing completion, but it is not quite ready yet.  I apologize for making everyone wait.  The creating and self-publishing a book business is much more complex than we first expected.

Originally, the plan was to order a few hundred books through Blurb, but with the unexpected success of our Kickstarter campaign we began to examine our options more closely.  We found we could make more books of equal quality for less by printing a large order through an actual offset printing company.  Enter Codra publishing.

I received a message via the Kickstarter account from a lovely woman representing Codra who expressed a keen interest in our project and outlined what her company could do for us.  It seemed like a good deal, and remains to do so.  However, our initial book template was all set up by Blurb's specifications.  We sent it along to Codra only to find through a series of back and forths and emails and FTP transfers and mildly harried phone calls that the Blurb template is not universal, nor applicable in all publishing universes.  So, several file modifications and clarifications later, Codra is in possession of the final, acceptable file.

In the mail today we received that most promising of omens: a padded FedEx mailer.  In it was a proof copy of This Has Happened.  It's not on the paper it will be, and the cover isn't attached, but all the content is there and it is looking awfully close to great.  There are a few minor color issues to futz with, and I will be doing an extensive proofread tonight, but the good news is we are on our way!

Stay tuned.  The book is near.  We want it to be as good as it can be, because you all put so much love and support behind it.  It's going to be worth it.

You'll know more as soon as we do!

Take care, and be safe

17 minutes to go, almost $9,000 raised.  I am a man of few words, and the correct words to express how I feel are not among them.  Suffice it to say, I am overwhelmed with such a rich and deep mix of emotions right now, deeper, more wide-ranging, and more immediate than I have ever felt before.  I thank you all so much from the bottom of my soul.  I only hope that the work and its results are worthy of such an outpouring of kindness and generosity, and are able to spread some genuine recognition and understanding.

Separate in affect, but equal in scope--
The blind shock of tragedy,
And the brace of your support.

Take care and be safe,

4 days to go!

Hello all,

We've got four days to go.  We've raised over $8,000.  This campaign had exceeded our greatest expectations, and it's all thanks to you.  We couldn't get this book off the ground without you.  While the last few donations pour in we are hard at work using funds to create the best book possible.  Stay tuned for more production updates, and keep spreading the word!

Thank you!
