Eight years ago brother and sister team Anthony and Claire Bueno commenced production on the retrospective documentary CLEANIN' UP THE TOWN: Remembering Ghostbusters. Their intention to tell the definitive story of how these much loved films were made, the visual effect techniques used and to clear up any mystery of how these films came to fruition.
To retain creative control and preserve the integrity of the story, Anthony and Claire “went into business for themselves” and took the decision to self-fund the project.
Having gathered OVER 70 INTERVIEWS (full list on IMDb) including actors Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver. Director Ivan Reitman, producers Joe Medjuck and Michael C. Gross, visual effects crew Richard Edlund, John Bruno, Dennis Muren, Steve Johnson, Randall William Cook, Howie Weed and Ned Gorman. Ray Parker Jr., Randy Edelman and editor Sheldon Kahn, the magnitude of the project has grown proving too much for only two people to make.
We feel, to enable us to complete the feature length documentaries about both Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II; do justice to the people who have graciously given their time, shared their skills and stories and to deliver to the fans the kind of original, detailed documentary that they not only have longed for but honours the loyalty they deserve; we really do need to take one more trip to the US to complete filming and enlist additional team members “with the tools and the talent” that we simply don’t have to make this a truly polished documentary that audiences will love.
Unfortunately our last production trip to the States represented "the last of the petty cash.” So to enable us to finish, we have decided that a Kickstarter campaign is the only way to help us complete this documentary in 2016 and help make CLEANIN' UP THE TOWN: Remembering Ghostbusters the essential companion to the Ghostbusters movies.
We have so many wonderful, insightful stories, anecdotes and rich interviews from hugely talented people, some of which have never spoken on camera before about these films that capture these moments of cinema history.
“So call it fate, call it luck, call it karma, these things happen for a reason” and the time is now to raise the money so we can share these films with the world.
So to plagiarise from Pete Venkman “No job is too big, no donation is too big” to help us release the film in 2016.

HOW WILL YOUR DONATION BE USED?
Every penny of your generous donation will be put to good use, to make sure we deliver you the best documentary possible. Funds will be divided into completing production, post-production, marketing and distribution.
- Production - With a few interviews we'd still like to film and the beginning and end sequences to shoot, we need to make a trip back to L.A. Essentially we need travel expenses for the Production Crew plus equipment hire and filming permits need to be covered.
- Post-Production - With a lot of work and a short time to do it much of our funds will go towards licensing of the footage, images and music that do not belong to us. Digitization of archive footage that's not been seen before and making sure our production team can work full time on completing the documentary for the summer.
- Marketing and Distribution - To make sure we deliver you a polished product that will proudly sit in your Blu-ray/DVD collection we need to place the right amount of funds into this area. This includes taking the film to festivals, screenings, Blu-ray/DVD creation, posters, advertising and many other promotional materials to ensure the documentary is seen by the widest audience possible.
WHAT IF WE EXCEED OUR TARGET?!
If we reach our funding goal, and you would still like to donate then we can continue to increase the quality of the final product and pay for additional collectors items. These will include:
Stretch Goal £48,000 - Extended Edition of CLEANIN' UP THE TOWN - This will be an automatic upgrade to the release. With over 70 people interviewed there are HOURS of footage and a lot of stories to hear, but we can only add so many into the documentary and keep it a respectable length. However, with the extra funds we can include so much more and extend your knowledge further into how these films were made. This will either be a bonus disc of extras or an extended version or the documentary; or both! It purely depends on the extra funds available.
Stretch Goal £55,000 - Steelbook Edition - Steelbooks have become the "must have" for any film collector and we'd like to have one for you! With the additional funds we can have a limited number of Steelbooks created. These will replace the version in the "Goody Bag".
Vinyl Edition of the Soundtrack - A special addition for the music lovers, a red vinyl edition of the "CLEANIN' UP THE TOWN: SOUNDTRACK".
Marketing and Distribution - Further funds will be added for the best possible campaign for the release of the documentary.

Risks and challenges
Over the eight years since we started this project we have faced many challenges. Being UK based not only has it been logistically challenging producing the documentary where all it's cast and crew live and work in wide-spread areas of the U.S. but it has also been financially challenging.
That being said we have never given up. We have worked within the film and media industry for 12 years on projects varying from feature films, TV, short films and more importantly documentaries.
We knew the risks from the beginning and knew they can be over come with the knowledge we gathered and the industry professionals that have come on board with us.
As Harold Ramis wisely said "If you have the courage, the tools, the talent and the fortitude, we can deal with pretty much anything!"Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
