About this project
For two weeks in November, I will have an installation in a gallery at Skidmore College. I am making an installation that explores the possibilities of sensory experience.
The Way it Works:
The main part of the show is this egg-like-cocoon-like-vessel-like structure. Its about 5x5 feet and can fit one person at a time. Every day a different video will loop inside of the vessel. These videos are short, made from footage I have taken of different beautiful, fascinating things that I encounter in life, meant to spark some kind of visceral reaction. The rest of the space will be altered to support the structure.
I am interested in how such a physical and visceral feeling can affect one's every day life. I compare it to how one is in a different place (be it mental, physical, or emotional) on a cloudy day as opposed to a sunny day. I'm interested in how encounters with phenomenal sensory things (images, sounds, textures, etc.) can affect one in a similar way.
I'm also interested in public art as something for everyone--that all people have the possibility and probability of encountering--and thus interacting with-- in their every day lives.
Where the money will go:
Defraying costs of the installation. Things like:
- PVA glue
- Gorilla glue
- and knick knacks here and there
The extra money I make will all still go towards this installation. The $400 goal I set was to cover the main expense--the structure. But any extra cash will give me some more options when it comes to the rest of the installation space. I've got some ideas about lights and pictures and fabric....its going to be cool....
The exhibition is totally independent. I have been building the structure in my sculpture classes, but i will be getting no credit for the installation.
