For two weeks in November, I will have an installation in a gallery at Skidmore College. I am making an installation that explores the possibilities of sensory experience.
The Way it Works:
The main part of the show is this egg-like-cocoon-like-vessel-like structure. Its about 5x5 feet and can fit one person at a time. Every day a different video will loop inside of the vessel. These videos are short, made from footage I have taken of different beautiful, fascinating things that I encounter in life, meant to spark some kind of visceral reaction. The rest of the space will be altered to support the structure.
I am interested in how such a physical and visceral feeling can affect one's every day life. I compare it to how one is in a different place (be it mental, physical, or emotional) on a cloudy day as opposed to a sunny day. I'm interested in how encounters with phenomenal sensory things (images, sounds, textures, etc.) can affect one in a similar way.
I'm also interested in public art as something for everyone--that all people have the possibility and probability of encountering--and thus interacting with-- in their every day lives.
Where the money will go:
Defraying costs of the installation. Things like:
- PVA glue
- Gorilla glue
- and knick knacks here and there
