Quail Bell Look Book/Issue One
Issue one of a quarterly fashion magazine that celebrates female directors, independent designers, and a wide spectrum of beauty
The Big Picture
Mainstream fashion promotes racism, sexism, and many other 'isms thanks to a small group of elitist businessmen. Yawn, old news. Instead of complaining, how about searching for a solution? If you're craving original looks worn by models whose beauty isn't 'one size fits all,' welcome. Quail Bell Press & Productions, LLC, a woman-owned arts & communications firm hailing from Virginia, has a quarterly print magazine with readers like you in mind. It would be called Quail Bell Look Book and would be brought to you by the same people behind Quail Bell Magazine, Comicality Magazine, and "The Persistence of Poe."
With your help, we can print at least 100 copies of the first issue and begin by promoting it throughout Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Maryland. We'd table at relevant independent publishing and fashion events, seek advertisers, and make the magazine available via print-on-demand at QuailBellMagazine.com.
Our shoots are directed, photographed, and styled by creative young women from all over the world--not just NYC and Milan. We feature female and male models, people of color, and subjects of various shapes and sizes. Our models wear independent and thrifted clothing and accessories sold online and at stores that you can afford. Most shoots are shot at historic or natural locations, while some are shot on handmade sets. Scores of the shoots take place in Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Maryland, but we've had shoots elsewhere--even Italy (not Milan)! We think artistically, historically, and locally.
Thank you for your time and consideration. We value your support!
Risks and challenges
We've published work before. We're familiar with design, paper options, printing possibilities, etc. We've produced our website, QuailBellMagazine.com, since mid-2011 and our quarterly print mag, Quail Bell 'Zine, since late 2011. We also have our first book, The Nest (Brandyland Publishing), coming out this summer. All this being said, we are still trying to figure out the best channels of distribution. We appreciate your suggestions and any opportunities you may have in mind. We want to get the magazine out there!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
