This project seeks to fund the production of 5 gnome sculpts to be cast in metal. They are already mastered in resin in preparation for a metal mould, so can be bought in either material should the funding total be met - see the rewards on the right.
Here are 5 resin casts painted up in an example colour scheme. You do not have to paint yours this way. You don't have to paint them at all, but I would love to see you paint them if you do.
This Kickstarter is a change of format for Krakon Games, concentrating on a smaller selection of figures to make the project swifter. If the project is well received, more sculpts of a similar nature will follow.
If you do like these sculpts, please let me know - especially by backing the project. Don't rely on others to make this a success - press those buttons and unleash your inner gnome!
Here are the actual sculpts (plus a friend), which were created using Beesputty and Greenstuff. There's a little caption below each to describe their weapons.
The earth sprite (nor mushroom man) is not included in the 5 gnome package. The earth sprite is a stretch-goal that might be unlocked for you to be able to add to your pledge. The mushroom man (mykeling) is part of the next project after Gnomes.
Here is a quick assembly of the resin casts. They are all single piece models and fit on 20mm square bases just fine.
To show you just how small the Gnomes are, here is one of their larger cousins - a dwarf from Games Workshop's more classic period. The size difference helps differentiate the models, because those beards are rather dwarfy!
The funding target for this project is £300. If we reach that, the gnomes will be cast in metal as planned.
At £400, the Earth Sprite will be unlocked as an add-on, available in resin for £2.50.
At £500, the Geomancer will be unlocked as an add-on, available in resin for £3. You can add both the Geomancer and Earth Sprite as a pair for £5 instead.
At £600 all backers will get free wooden bases to cover the models in pledges.
At £800 there will be a Gnomes 2 Kickstarter made to follow this project later on. This will be presented in a similar format. It will include 5 Gnomes armed with spears, optional shields, with stretch goals for an illusionist character and infantry command.
Postage will be requested outside of Kickstarter, when your order is ready to send. This makes it cheaper and more accurate for both you and I. It also stops postage distorting the stretch goals. Also, it allows you to add in any other models you may want to include in your parcel later on.
Postage is likely to be:
- £3-5 for UK.
- £4-6 for EU.
- £5-8 for Canada & USA.
- £5-12 for ROW.
Gnomes are one of the lesser species within the "Creatures" world. Creatures: Underground seeks to explore several such species over time.
Crafted from clay and stone, the Gnomes are often called earth men. Despite looking similar to dwarves and humans, they are primitive elemental creatures that exist solely to serve.
Not all Gnomes are fully crafted at birth. In fact, some are merely roused to serve as carriers and bodyguards and afforded the most basic of forms. The primitive earth sprites are often just simple forms with arms to undertake tasks at haste before returning to the ground.
With good service and success, gnomes can live on and grow into characters with burgeoning agenda.
Resin casting was completed by Shed Games.
Metal casting will be handled by Macrocosm Miniatures.
KG Brushwork is almost exclusively by Neil Hubbard - though Ross did the boys in teal (for a change)!
Risks and challenges
Gnomes will be Kickstarter number _6_ for Krakon Games (KG). At time of writing, 4 previous Kickstarters are 100% fulfilled. 2 (Overlords and WoC) are currently being delivered. All projects have been delivered by, or before, the estimated month. Hopefully this instils some trust and confidence in KG.
This Kickstarter is perhaps the most developed Kickstarter KG has launched to date. All models are sculpted. All models are master-cast. The metal caster is gnawing at my ear to get started on metal production. Lets feed him. Models that is, not ears.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
