WHAT IS THE CURRENT VISION?
At recent performances we have had a growing number of listeners requesting a copy of our album. This is great and we would love to honor these requests.
The only problem is we haven't recorded it yet! It is our dream to capture our arrangements and compositions on a recording that our listeners can take with them and enjoy anytime they want. Yes, it may be only one recording among a sea of millions, but it would be unique: an honest and powerful reflection of our own creative journeys and interactions, and we believe that is worth giving.
PROJECT ONE: OUR DEBUT ALBUM
Our debut album will feature the Jen Oikawa Trio plus guest musicians whom we have loved performing with over the past few years. It will include our favorite arrangements and original compositions.
The trio includes Jen Oikawa (Piano), Bryan Taylor (drums) and Brandon Shaw (bass). Not only do we just simply love playing with each other, but we find that our interaction and connection facilitates a fulfilling creative release. I (Jen Oikawa) find that I discover more of what's in me when I play with them. Our goal is to complete an album that is an authentic reflection of who we are as a creative entity.
We have been performing these tunes for years and with a little bit of tweaking will be ready to head to the recording studio. We are gonna be churning out this LP at Mach 2 speed in three solid, intense, back-to-back days in August.
The musicians are ready. The audio engineer is on board. The studio space has been chosen. We just need YOU!!!
WE CAN'T DO THIS ALONE AND NOR DO WE WANT TO.
No seriously, we don't have the money!
And we want to invite YOU into this creative adventure. Creativity is all about connection and community. Our listeners influence and inspire us. Having a community supporting us not only enables us to complete this project but also gives us a group of people that we can share it with. And that's ultimately what it's about.
Many recording projects can happen in as simple of a place as "your friend's studio he built in his garage." What makes this project a little more delicate is that it is a live jazz recording. We require a studio that houses a high quality piano, as well as the space and equipment to record all of the musicians at the same time. The live interaction is integral to the music.
We will need to pay for the studio rental, engineering, mixing, mastering, disc manufacturing and replication of the album, distribution costs, royalties for tunes we arranged but don't own, and several other small expenses, including costs for fundraising.
WE ARE ASKING THAT YOU WOULD CONSIDER JOINING US THROUGH FINANCIAL SUPPORT! WE APPRECIATE YOU CHECKING OUT OUR PROJECT AND DEEPLY THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.
