Introducing NECF Choreographic Residency Artist, Winnie Berger
We are delighted to announce the choreographers who will be part of the 2016 Northeast Choreographers Festival! The selected artists will each spend a week this summer setting their work on Fusionworks Dance Company to then be performed in the festival this fall.
First up is Winnie Berger, a dancer and choreographer living in New York City, who will be doing her residency at Fusionworks in June. Originally from Tucson, Arizona, Winnie attended Fordham University and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's BFA program, receiving a dual degree in Dance and Theology.
Winnie founded Mook Dance Company in 2014. Mook is an NYC-based contemporary dance company with the mission of creating art that is “inspiring, reflective, dynamic, ethereal, and relatable to all individuals”. As stated by dance critic Jerry Hochman, “..there’s a refreshingly vigorous lyricism to Artistic Director Winnie Berger’s choreography”.
In addition to directing her dance company, Winnie continues to pursue dance by performing with Exit 12 Dance Company, Ballet Theater Company, and various other dance groups and projects in NYC. More about Winne Berger and Mook Dance Company can be found at www.mookdancecompany.com
