I have wanted to record a new album for the last 10 years. In March of this year, I set out to record a traditional swing album. The thought crossed my mind to perhaps put on an original or two. Just exploring the idea, I took a homemade demo of all my tunes and played them for John Macy and Eric Thorin, saying "let me know if you think one of these might work on my swing album." After their feedback, I followed the advice and recorded an all originals album (besides the one Beatles song).
I put together a core band with Eric Thorin, Eric Moon, Gabriel Mervine and Sean McGowan. Later, Christian Teele was added to the mix. Eric Thorin arranged 4 of the tunes which called for string quartet and twin fiddles. As the recording evolved, I began to hear many harmony vocals and other instruments. Soon enough, there were 16 wonderful musicians coloring the palette of my original songs. The musician included Yaniv Salzberg, M'hamed El Menjra, Greg Harris, Billy Contreras, Regan Kane, Wesley Michaels, Sam Bush, Sally Van Meter, Andrea McGowan and John Macy. It has been both a pleasure and an honor to listen to my tunes unfold.
All of the songs on the record were written between 2008 and 2011. The songs are all based on my own life experiences and experiences of dear friends. While writing these songs, I realized how much I enjoy singing. Singing on these recordings has been incredible experience, and I feel like I am only beginning the adventure of exploring my voice. This album is truly a snapshot of the blossoming life of my composing, arranging and singing.
Once the album is complete, I will spend the rest of the year booking concerts and applying for festival performances. Publicity for the record will begin in January, and the CD release concert series will begin in early March.
