About

Fractured Stars is a 20mm science fiction wargame that allows players to test their command skills amidst the conflicts of the 23rd century.

The Freeport Accords have outlawed bombardment from the air and space and no faction is powerful enough to defy the combined might of the Seven Systems should they risk using such weapons.

Conflicts are now fought solely on the ground. Soldiers, drones and vehicles fight amidst the unseen background of electronic warfare. Targeting systems and sensor arrays are jammed and counter jammed, forcing battlegroups to engage at close range.

It is in this environment that brave and skilled commanders can rise to fame and fortune. Can you lead your faction to glory amongst the Fractured Stars?

Your pledge level will determine which options you have access to. You are free to mix and match from the available options and can change your mind at any point until you submit your pledge manager at the end of the campaign.

Rulebook - 128 page softback (picture shown is a first draft, design is subject to change)

Included with the Scout, Captain, Major and General pledges

Dice - pack of ten, 10-sided dice (available in red, blue or green)

Included with the Scout, Captain, Major and General pledges

Ruined Buildings - pack of 5 laser cut mdf (4 shown)

Included with the Captain, Major and General pledges

Miniatures - there are 3 different categories of miniatures. Option 'A' are infantry, option 'B' are light and medium vehicles whilst option 'C' are heavy vehicles.

The Captain pledge allows you to choose any 4 'A' and any 2 'B' options. The Major pledge allows you to choose any 8 'A' and any 4 'B' options whilst the General pledge allows you to choose a mighty 16 'A' and 8 'B' options. When you fill in your pledge manager you will be given the option of swapping any 2 'B' options for a single 'C' option if you wish.

Example - You choose a Captain pledge and want to create a TCU force. By selecting 3 packs of Troopers and 1 pack of Support Troopers from the 'A' list and 2 packs of Diamondback Scout Cars from the 'B' list you will end up with a good size force of 54 Troopers, 9 Missile Teams and 4 Scout Cars.

Example 2 - You choose a Captain pledge but want to learn the game with a friend. You select 2 packs of Supremacy Devas, 1 pack of Kannid Tribsemen and 1 pack of Kannid Longtooths from the 'A' list and a Supremacy Durga and Kannid Ridgeback from the 'B' list. This will give you a Supremacy force of 24 Devas and 1 Durga APC to fight against a Kannid force of 18 Tribesmen, 12 Longtooths and 1 "Ridgeback" Recon mech.

The following will be available if we meet our initial funding goal, with more options being unlocked as stretch goals.

A game of fractured stars is typically fought between two players, each commanding a Battlegroup comprised of up to 6 Formations - typically infantry platoons or vehicle squadrons.

Each turn begins with a Strategy Phase where an order is issued face down to each Formation. The players then roll off with the highest roll choosing who will go first that turn. Finally players can use intelligence gathering or hacking units to reveal their opponent's hidden orders - and even attempt to change them!

This is then followed by the Action Phase. Players take it in turns to activate one formation at a time, revealing its order if it was still face down. The units within that formation can then act by moving or shooting within the restrictions of the order issued.

As units suffer attacks throughout the Action Phase they receive combat stress tokens. At the end of each turn additional tokens are accrued by units which are under half strength, out of coherency, or too far from their Formation Commander. All units with tokens then check to see if the stress reduces their combat effectiveness - in some cases the unit can be removed from the game altogether!

Each game lasts for 6 turns. At the start of each game the player's randomly select a mission (each player has their own mission, they are not both trying to achieve the same objectives) and at the end points are scored for fulfilling their own mission, with bonus points for preventing their opponent from fulfilling theirs.

The Terran Colonial Union

The TCU was formed from the hundreds of factions that emerged from the collapse of the Terran Alliance in the aftermath of the war against the Kannid Empire. All TCU members must agree to the terms of the Freeport Accords and pay their tithe to support the Covenant Navy but are otherwise free to govern their own affairs, so conflict is as common between members as it is against other powers in the Seven Systems.

With their signature pulse weaponry and wheeled vehicles for rapid redeployment the military forces of the TCU members rely on the ubiquitous and reliable hardware of the latter half of the war. Although 3 decades have past since the end of that conflict the task of rebuilding lands and cities shattered by orbital bombardment is far more important than developing new military technology, so TCU battlegroups across the systems are distinguished more by insignia, tactics and organisation than by equipment.

The Confederation of Kannid Tribes

The war against the Terran Alliance brought about the almost total destruction of the Red Claw tribe which had founded the Kannid Empire and had ruled for two centuries. The tribes met in council to from the new Confederation which sought a just peace with the humans and reaffirmed the ancestral rights of the tribes.

When the tribes march to war they are led by the longtooths, veteran warriors equipped with advanced suits of powered armour and accompanied by 'ARCs' (Autonomous Robotic Constructs) which serve as sentries and scouts in their smaller forms or as tank hunters and artillery as the mighty Destroyer ARCs. When all else fails the tribes will deploy their totems - towering mechs called Striders piloted by the most daring Kannid Warriors.

The Human Supremacy

The Supremacy was founded in the years following first contact between the Terran Alliance and the Kannid Empire. Under the charismatic leadership of the xenophobic terrorist Joao Mendes Mehta, the Supremacy were dismissed as stupid and irrelevant until the outbreak of war. They rose to great power and influence until it became clear that a peace treaty would be signed, so they betrayed the Alliance in order to continue the conflict alone.

Armed with powerful experimental rail weaponry stolen from the research facilities of the Terran Alliance at the end of the war, the Supremacy goes to war in suits of powered armour accompanied by anti-grav vehicles. A technological generation ahead of TCU and Kannid forces, only their small numbers have prevented widespread conquest.
