GEEKED Magazine: Back To Print
GEEKED is best when you can flip through it, dog-ear its pages, or read it on the train. We're coming back to print in a big way!
Last year, we made the decision to go online so that GEEKED would be accessible to readers all over the world. We made two beautiful issues, The Intersectionality Issue and The Sexy Issue: they are free to read, and they reached hundreds of new GEEKS! When we hit Con season last Spring/Summer, we were delighted to meet new people and hear what you loved most about GEEKED. What we were surprised to find is that now, more than ever, people wanted printed zines. Our readers were glad that they could access some content online, for free, but it meant a lot to them to have zines and comic books that spoke to their interests and that widened representation. "We want more print!" you kept telling us (while stuffing your faces with our famous "Con Cupcakes").
OK, we thought, it's on like Donkey Kong!
So here we are, to bring GEEKED back to you in the format you love best. And, to continue to build our platform so that artists, writers, and creators who are underrepresented in the mainstream can get their work out into the world. This Kickstarter is not just to re-launch GEEKED back into print, but also to help us to expand through advertising, to compensate our hard-working, talented contributors, and to take us to Cons so that we can continue to meet the people who matter most to us...YOU.
The first issue that will come out of your fundraising efforts is the Breaking Boundaries Issue! We’ve chosen the theme Breaking Boundaries because it speaks to what we have always tried to do and to the vision we have for the zine going forward. We want to continue to explore comics, culture and gender in ways that truly depart from the mainstream. Each issue we have created over the last two years examined some part of GEEK culture in wonderfully unique ways and with a new issue and a new year, we want to rock that even harder! We want Issue 8 to be all about the outstanding GEEKery that Hulk-smashes the boundaries of the mainstream! In this issue, you'll find:
- Art by artist Rory Midhani
- An Interview with Maya Glick, the powerhouse behind the upcoming fan film about X-men's Storm, Rain
- Original comics and selections of graphic novels
- A piece celebrating the 40th year of The Feminist Library
- A roundup of the best LGBTQ YA Fiction
AND SO MUCH MOREEEE!!
What else will your funds help us to do? We're aiming to successfully launch into a bi-annual print format (FOR GOOD), to compensate our contributors, and to attend major Comic Conventions like London Film and Comic Con and Thought Bubble in order to meet more of you and, of course, send you all the GEEKED goodies! (Oh, and the boring stuff like pay our website fees, our accountant, blah blah).
With your help, we'll be able to keep GEEKED running in precisely the ways you prefer: cheap (our cover price will stay at £5), in print, and full of awesome feminist geekery.
Totes, Ts, My So-Called Secret Identity comic books & original art by Rory Midhani!

Risks and challenges
We've been in the zine business now for almost THREE years (look at our lil' baby, all grown up!) so we know that print snafus are possible. But we are hooked up with some of the most amazing printers in the business and we have confidence that the finished product is going to knock your socks off. What happens if there's a delay? We'll be all up in your inbox. What if the tote bags turn up in the wrong colors? We will notify you of the problem and immediately re-order. This campaign is all about meeting the desires of our readers, reaching our goal will only enhance that mission!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
