We're so excited to be preparing to share Monarch, my newest full-length album, recorded in our very own home!
We've been busy here in the Winters home — recording in the evenings after the kids are down, with my wife, Lane, at the controls. We up-ended the futon in the guest/side room, and with a small collection of mattresses, a couple sleeping pads, some microphones, a chair, and the skin of a sheep, we've managed to build our own little isolation fort.
These songs have been whittled out over the kitchen table, in concerts and in house shows, and in quiet moments over the last few years.... These songs are little bundles of our hearts and thoughts gathered together instinctively, like a sleepy pile of puppies. They are the prayers and processings of the last few years....
As an independent singer/songwriter, I pour myself into the songs to get them where they need to be before sending off the sapling form to be turned into a beautiful, physical reality. It will be mixed, mastered, and properly clothed before it meets the world. And whereas I'll do the playing, arranging, and begin the mixing process, I'll hand the completion of the album over to gifted people who are masters of their crafts.
We're also excited to be collaborating with other musicians & creative folks to bring this album to fullness.... Amber Mattfield | Violin /// Grant Nordean | Electric Guitar /// Jeremy Sheets | Cello /// Liz Ulrich | Vocals /// Megan Walsh | Vocals /// Trey Davidson | Bass /// and others.... We'll be working with Dave Wilton at St. Ida's on mixing & mastering to make the songs really sing with all they've got and come to life.
To make our goal of $10,000 and make this album a reality, we've come up with some scrumptious rewards! This money will go to mixing, mastering, artwork/design, printing, and the band who helped to fill out and decorate the songs.
We're honored to invite you into this project via the magic of Kickstarter.
Kickstarter is all-or-nothing — so, either we make our $10,000 goal in 30 days, and the project gets funded, or we don't, and you get all your money back. So if you dig it, love our music, love us, etc., pick a reward & jump on board!
Send me a message if you want to see the way the money breaks down!
Our last album was completed in roughly the same way—writing and recording in a home setting. Listen & Download for FREE at http://zachwinters.bandcamp.com/

Risks and challenges
As mentioned, the cost of this project goes directly to paying other creative professionals to help make this album the best it can be. This increases the longevity of the recording and the relationship people will be able to have with these songs.
To put Kickstarter in context for music: oftentimes, bands will receive full funding from a record label on the front end of a new album project. This covers the tracking, engineering, mixing, mastering, replication, art, promotion, etc. — everything it takes to get an album from the mind of an artist into the ears and hands of people who want to hear. With Kickstarter, we're asking people who believe in—or just like—what we're doing to be our record label. Being independent, I tend to most of the front-end production myself and oversee the rest (as far as I am able) until completion.... This cuts down on the cost of sharing my music, and I have full freedom in creation, being at liberty to write what's on my heart....
Thanks for all of the encouragement over the years! I'd be honored to have your help in making this project a reality.
We're confident that we will deliver on the rewards, and we're thrilled to get to share these songs with you all!
We picked OCTOBER for the delivery date, and we'll do our best to be on time with the delivery! Be sure to check the Updates section to follow the progress to completion!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
