My name is Richard Aufrichtig and I’m a multi-disciplinary artist living and working in Brooklyn, New York.
For the past year or so I have been developing a six-song cycle that I call Ocean Music. Birthed in a completely new style for me, the songs were written over a seven-month period (roughly April to October of 2013) and have been workshopped since that time in a variety of settings: churches, rock clubs, folk clubs, living rooms, art galleries, and salons - all to create a roughly thirty minute piece of music that I am immensely proud of, and feel ready to document in a professional way.
This is where you come in, if you so choose (and I hope you do!).
It is with your help that the dream of recording and distributing this album in a meaningful way can become a reality!
The plan is to record this album with Dan Crowley at his Motel Room Studios in incredibly high fidelity (24-bit audio rate at 192 kilohertz), and then to distribute it digitally and as a 12” vinyl record (a first for me!).
While my performance work touches on the borders of music, theater, poetry and communal festivity, I have also been engaged in the world as a recording artist for the past eight years. In this time, I have self-released over a dozen collections of songs. Most of these collections were self-recorded. For this album I have decided to work in a professional studio to create a sonically rich musical world for my compositions.
In the developmental process of these songs, I have been lucky enough to work with the tremendously talented Alice Tolan-Mee, Trevor Wilson and Ethan Woods (all of the celebrated musical group Anawan). For the first time in my musical history, I have been working collaboratively with other musicians in a rehearsal setting to experiment and create the arrangements to support my original compositions. The results have been staggering and I could not be more excited to record and share these sounds with my local community, and with the global community as well.
For many years now, I have been supporting friends I know and artists I admire through the mediums of Kickstarter and IndieGoGo, and it is with great excitement and gratitude that I launch here my first ever personal crowd-funding mission. I sincerely appreciate the time you took to read this campaign message, and hope that you find it possible to support me as a member of your community on this new personal and artistic endeavor.
If you cannot support this project financially at this time, or have a question about the process that lies ahead – an encouraging e-mail is always appreciated! I can be reached at email@example.com

Risks and challenges
As an artist working in many mediums, I have been lucky to work with a variety of artists at varying professional levels in the developmental process of their work. I’ve personally supported the creation of countless works by running a monthly arts festival in Brooklyn, and I understand the emotional, physical and mental work that goes into the creation of a new piece of art. This is not my first time working in a recording studio, or being the lead artist on a large project, and I feel ready to face all of the unknown challenges that lay ahead. I’ll be working with an engineer and co-producer that I trust immensely, as well as a group of professional musicians who all bring years of experience to the table. With the funds raised from this Kickstarter campaign, we will have the time and space to be creative in the studio, and take the necessary artistic risks that working on any album requires - without the fear of not being able to finish and put it all together.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
