Frequently Asked Questions
Just write your suggestion as a comment on the comments section of the main campaign page, ideally with an event title and a category in brackets, as below:
“100m sprint (SPEED) – Animals race over 100m on a standard outdoor athletics track”
You can also suggest possible provisions/restrictions for water and flying animals as part of your post in the comments.
Only backers can post in the comments so it works well as a record of when events were first suggested and by whom.
If you want to open more discussion about the event, feel free to start a thread on the Champion of the Wild page of BoardGameGeek. New event suggestions that meet the criteria as listed on the campaign page will be added regularly.Last updated:
Yes… To make it to the BGG master list of event suggestions, an event must meet the following criteria:
1) It is easily measurable
2) It fits (however loosely) in to one of the five event categories – speed, power, endurance, technical or team.
3) It is not violent* or inappropriate for families
4) It shouldn’t be too similar to another event on the list of prototype events or suggestions (available on BGG forums under each category)
*Some physical contact is allowed (as in the Royal Rumble event) but provisions should be made to avoid injury to animals and players!
Note that “Team” events usually involve multiple animals of the same species competing in the same event.Last updated:
You can suggest as many events as you like, but it’s wise to go for quality rather than quantity, as backers will have a maximum of one of their suggested events put forward for each public poll. Any other suggestions could be considered for subsequent polls.
Your idea is more likely to be successful if it captures the imagination of other backers, with some idea as to how you might want to facilitate or restrict the participation of flying or water-borne creatures to even the playing field, as well as some room for coaches to use inventive strategies to maximise their animals’ performance.Last updated:
Regularly during the project (initially daily if possible), we will compile a list of all the valid event suggestions in each category along with details including the date, time and backer relating to that suggestion. We will post this list on the BoardGameGeek Champion of the Wild forum, updating the first post to include the titles of ALL suggested events in that category.
Each suggestion will also have its own individual entry under the forum which includes the event description text. Backers can then recommend their favourite suggestions by clicking the ‘thumbs-up’ icon next to that entry – this should help give us an idea of what’s most popular with forum readers.
It’s worth taking the time to look at the full list before making suggestions so you don’t accidentally suggest something that’s already up there.
If your suggestion is judged to be too similar to a previous suggestion, then it won’t make it to the master list.Last updated:
We will go through all the suggestions that meet our criteria (see above) and decide on a representative selection to go to the public poll for each category.
We will take many things in to consideration, including the presence of any similar events already in the game, the balance of the event when considering air-borne and water-borne animals and the amount of text space needed on the event cards to name a few.
Most importantly, though, we will look at the popularity of the suggestion among backers in the campaign comments section and on BoardGameGeek forums as we really want to give you what you want.Last updated:
One of the great things about crowdfunding before having the new cards finalised is that the specifics of exactly how the cards will look has not yet been decided. As a reward to you if you think up one of the most popular events (which wins one of the public polls), we will be handing this ‘art direction’ over to you!
So you can tell our artist exactly how you imagine the card looking (bearing in mind a few guidelines that we will send you) and he will make your dream in to a reality. You’ll then get the chance to suggest any minor changes to the art before it is finalised.
As an extra bonus, you’ll get your name printed on every one of those cards ever made!
We will also be getting backers involved in the art direction for the animal cards.Last updated:
Yes! And tell us why you want to see it by posting in the project comments on BGG.
Animal suggestions won’t be going to a public poll in the same way as the events but we want to hear all your input to make the game as good as it can be in every area.
We’re not treating animal suggestions in quite the same way as events for a couple of reasons. Firstly, we are already (hopefully) aware of almost all the animals that could be included in the game and no backer can invent new animals!
Secondly, though, we need to keep a careful watch on the balance of shapes, sizes and skills on offer from our mini-kingdom of animals to keep the game as balanced and fun as possible.
This is in contrast to the events, where your imagination could bring forth all manner of interesting challenges we could never have dreamed up.
The new animals are up for debate, though, so do let us know what you think should and shouldn’t be in there by posting in the comments, or on an appropriate BGG forum page.
We may choose to run a poll on animal selection during the campaign, particularly if there is one animal that is gaining a lot of support from backers (or losing it). However, this will likely be choosing between several similar options to maintain the game’s balance.Last updated:
If you’d like to pledge for more than one copy, please increase your pledge accordingly under the “Manage My Pledge” option – just don’t forget to add a shipping fee to your pledge for each additional copy too as Kickstarter will only charge shipping for one game by default.
For example, if you would like 3 copies for the US, you should pledge £77 = £23 + 2* (£23 + £4) as shipping of the first copy will be added automatically. So in this case, you’d pay £81 overall.
Unfortunately, there is no discount on shipping for multiple copies to the same address.Last updated:
Once the project is complete, if we have exceeded the funding goal, you will receive a survey in an email in which we will ask you to fill out your current address and some other relevant details.
When the game is ready for shipping, hopefully in October 2019, we will ask you via a project update to check that you have not changed your address before shipping.
We will keep you updated with the progress of the project in the mean time, with regular email updates.
See the “Shipping” part of the campaign page for details on additional shipping costs for backers outside of the UK or US.Last updated:
