Chantabridgia is a music and documentary film, empowering people to live in love, harmony, and unity. These challenging times demand a healing response from each on of us. Chantabridgia emerges from the Kitchari Kirtan community, based in and around Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. It tells the story of how sound healing transforms a group of people, enriching the lives of the individuals and inspiring the community.
What is Kirtan?
Kirtan, call and response chanting, is vibrant Indian gospel singing, the Yoga of devotion, and meditation music all wrapped into one. While we trace its language, Sanskrit, and its spiritual roots back to ancient India, its healing power today is very real and relevant. When we raise our voices high, combining the music with the sacred sound syllables of mantra, what we experience is an opening of the gateways to the heart. In the presence of the divine names, we realize the pure joy of being connected to all beings.
Why are you making Chantabridgia?
Our chanting group, Kitchari Kirtan, is a love offering, inspired by a group of musicians and friends who delight in raising their collective voices together in the singing of the divine names ~ sankirtan. The dynamism of this community is overflowing with potential, not only musically and in our practice of chanting, but also in the development of relationships that mutually enhance each of our most important projects, visions, and aims. Gratitude has been the naturally outpouring response from us for the grace of this community, and we hope to deepen our reservoir of this precious quality with You.
In a world of growing discord and rising fear over the loss of freedom and human dignity, one may come to the conclusion that alternative communities and spiritual practices no longer matter. On the contrary, Chantabridgia stands for the vitality of the heart and the simple honest sharing of the word, voiced tenderly when people gather closely together.
Who is Chantabridgia?
We offer Chantabridgia through the combined commitment and energy of seasoned musicians, spiritual adventurers, and earnest practitioners who unite in friendship around spirit and song. Humbled by the longstanding traditions of Kirtan and comprised mostly of Americans, we tend naturally to weave in western grooves and even a little bit of English.
With gratitude, Chantabridgia features the following musicians: Tamal & Shakti, Paul "Gopal" Coggins, Irene Solea, the Prema Bhakti Band, the Solar Dynasty Band, Govinda Sky, Adam Bauer, Richard Davis, Shubalananda, Prajna Hallstrom, Kaeza Fearn, Scott "Hari" Whitmore, Colleen Butaney, Abraham & Halima Sussman, Nirmal Chanraratna, Larry Young, Charlie Shew, Carl Woolf, Jerry Leake, Sagit Zilberman, and the Kitchari Kirtan chorus.
What's in the budget?
Our dedication to community has prepared us for this Seva, selfless service, and the practicalities of taking on this music and documentary film. The money you pledge will help pay for the hard costs, which include but are not limited to:
- Audio Recording (engineer, studio time and musicians)
- Video Recording (director, videographer, editors, equipment rentals)
- Mixing (engineer mixes each song so that all the various instruments and vocals sound good together)
- Audio Mastering (engineer makes the CD sound good as a whole, so it jumps out of your speakers)
- Video Mastering (editors make sure in post production that the DVD sound and color is correct, so it lights up your screen and your speakers)
- Design and Layout (graphic artist, software makes the double CD/DVD beautiful)
- Manufacturing (production and packaging of the physical CDs)
Right now, we are raising funds to produce and promote Chantabridgia. Then, once it is released, 100% of the net proceeds will go to and be shared equally by the charities. We are partnering with three very worthy causes: International: C.J Maa Music School, Rishikesh, India (http://cjmaamusicschool.org/); National: Call & Response Foundation, Northfield, VT USA (http://www.callandresponsefoundation.org/): Local: Tunefoolery Music, Inc., Boston, MA USA (http://www.tunefoolery.org/).
We are starting this project by raising $10,800, as this is the bare minimum we will need to produce a professional quality music and documentary film, fulfill rewards, and cover the associated crowdfunding fees. In exchange for your donations, we have some beautiful offerings for you: copies of Chantabridgia, our new CD/DVD set; Kitchari Kirtan in a box; a private music lesson; live music yoga; a private house concert; and even a tour and stay with us in Cambridge! As a supporter, you’ll get the inside scoop on what the recording process looks and sounds like, as we post updates, photos, videos, music, etc. along the way.
We need your support!
This project will only be funded if we meet our goal. If the promise of Chantabridgia inspires you to bring out the joy in your own world, then please donate generously. You can also help by sharing this link with your network of friends and family (through e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) We are deeply grateful for all of your love and support, and we’re really looking forward to sharing this experience with you!
May our vision and force lead us to the spontaneous fulfillment of our collective desires.

Risks and challenges
While there are risks inherent to every project, we have assembled a wonderful team of sacred musicians and producers as a foundation to accomplish all of our hopes and dreams for CHANTABRIDGIA. First, we have as our project mentor, Richard Davis, who brings with him over 30 years of playing and producing sacred music and is currently a professor of Film Scoring at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. On the production side, we are pleased to have Alex and Dan from Bridge Sound & Stage in Cambridge, MA (http://www.thebridgesoundstage.com/) and Nate and Kyle, videographers (http://www.yourprofilevideo.com/).
As we go to launch our Kickstarter campaign, we have already completed our first live remote recording session. In addition, we have established dates and musician commitments for our upcoming studio recording sessions. Although we are anticipating a quick mixing and post production process, this can sometimes take additional time. In the unlikely event that our CD/DVD release is tardy due to recording delays, you will be the first to know via updates here on Kickstarter and email.
Then, once our recording process is complete, we will enter our production and distribution phases. We are in talks already with DiscMakers (https://www.discmakers.com/) which offers a full range of services to help us produce the physical CV/DVD set. It will be beautiful. Further, we are already coordinating with online distribution sites such as CD Baby, Spotify, and iTunes. Throughout this process, we will keep you posted on exact dates once release draws nearer.
We have allowed for all of these possibilities in our scheduling and hope to stay on track with our release date of December 2017. If there are any unforeseen delays, then this could become early 2018. We have considered all the rewards offered carefully and we do not expect problems in getting them to you around the estimated delivery date we have noted. As a backer, you are our partner. If there are any issues along the way, we will be sure to keep you updated.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
