I am so far past caring about these updates in my inbox. There have been so many of them - precious time lost in reading that cannot ever be recovered. Ultimately more time than it would take to read the actual book I paid for so long ago. Reading of that that story, when it finally arrives, will ultimately always be in the shadow of the wait and the 67 updates. I wonder whether the story itself or the churn in getting there will leave the greatest impression in memory.
@George - First, and probably most importantly: I just checked and yours was in today's shipment. You should have your books in a couple of weeks.
Second, nah, you're wrong. If you actually take the time to read everything, it'll still take you longer than reading all of our updates. Whether or not it will soothe your ire, that's something only you'll be able to say.
Third, your frustration is acknowledged and understood. It may not be shared at the same level you've demonstrated, but it is shared. I'm certain you're not the only person who is past their allotted patience. That said, Kickstarter never has included a guarantee of delivery -- only an estimate, and clearly, our estimates were wildly off. Part of the point of our updates is to keep backers aware of revisions to the time table and of the delays. If you've been reading any of the updates, then you'll know the reasons for them. Some of these reasons are entirely our own fault, primarily the result of our inexperience in running a Kickstarter (this being our first); others are, I think it is fair to say, far beyond our capacity to control.
We'll continue to do everything we can to get everyone their books as quickly as we can manage. We cannot do more than that.
Just to give an alternate opinion, I love all the updates.
I like hearing about what is going on, and the insights into unexpected problems and how you deal with them. 67 updates is a lot, but it's only about one a week, and considerably less than that since the project ended. A quick scan looks like we've been getting, on average, about one every three weeks. That is not a lot at all, and some of us like being kept up to date on the project.
And the regular updates help mitigate frustration with the delays, because I don't feel like we've been abandoned, or that this isn't an important priority.
Consider me another that appreciates the updates.
I would MUCH rather know what is happening and why a delay is taking place than not ever hear anything again until delivery. I get some amount of frustration that people feel, but at least every effort is being made to keep us in the loop and updated on progress. That goes a lot further to foster good will and respect than just ignoring your customers until they get their merchandise.
And seriously, everyone should at least have a little empathy for the ongoing issues (both personal and professional) that plague comic book production. Having worked the retail side in the past, I've known any number of creators who just blatantly ignore thier deadlines and never give any sort of progress report to, or concern for, the feelings of their customers. With you, Greg, we've been given more than our share of both, and I for one, sincerely appreciate it.
Count me in the update appreciation group. I like that you've been very straightforward and honest while keeping us in the loop. The book was well worth the wait. I would back Volume 2 on your honesty and the final product.
My goodness, I used to work in the mail room at a business, and that guy looks so much smarter than I do! I am loving each new page of LADY SABRE as it comes out, guys, and I'm glad that your first Kickstarter is approaching a safe landing after a bit of turbulence: HOLD FAST!
Thank you for the update! FYI - I'd still back your next KS in an instant. This project has had a lot of unfortunate delays, but you've always been upfront about what's going on. Thank you so much for that level of communication. My book will get here when it gets here, and I'll enjoy it more when it does.
Got mine yesterday! And the quality is excellent. I'm a backer who is fully aware of the pitfalls of Kickstarter, and understands that it is (mostly) not a pre-order system, but (usually) a helping hand for small companies and creators who need a platform to fund projects that would not normally happen otherwise. The updates are appreciated and, in my opinion, a necessary part of every Kickstarter project.

Hi, Received my package in the UK today - Love the book and it arrived on my birthday as a bonus :)
One small problem is is backed at the $40 PLATED tier but did not receive the signed/numbered book plate :( - not sure if this is possible to fix?
Not at all frustrated on my part, Greg. Life happens to all of us. Just wanted to make sure mine hasn't shipped, because if so, it hasn't arrived. I work crazy hours, and I'd hate it if I somehow missed the shipment or someone snatched it off my porch.
Keep up the great work, and I'll back anything you look to put together in the future!
Nothing yet, which is fine, but wanted to ask you update sometime after everything has been sent to say, "If you still haven't received it, better get in touch," or something like that.
So I was wondering if you were going to make this available on comixology for backers of you have already addressed this-sorry I didn't read that note. I didn't have any success downloading the zip file because I only have a iPhone and a kindle and both failed me. Or maybe I don't know what I'm doing.
