HELLO, FANTASTIC TRAFFIC OF KICKSTARTER!
Let us introduce ourselves. We are STRICK Amsterdam, a growing startup from the Netherlands. Four ambitious students were getting sick of plastic waste and the use of fossil fuels. It's not that hard to make a difference with a fun solution, right? Well, that's what we thought!
We redesigned something you're wearing every day: the shoelace. But our version is way, way cooler. And better. Our shoelaces, the Bottle Blue and the Wasted White, contains one ingredient: 100% recycled plastic. Fantastic! We're starting a revolution in the sneaker world with a shoelace that's contributing to a PET-bottle-free world!
We're on a mission to fight against pollution in a fun way. Besides cleaning up the world, we want to hocus-pocus waste into something useful, unbreakable and wearable. Hold your horses, cause we're about to awesomize shoelaces like never before.
Plastics made from oil and gas are non-renewable resources, which means that we are depleting fossil fuels if we continue to produce plastics. This dirty material threatens the environment and our very own health. Why? Most plastics are NOT biodegradable. When people litter, plastic trash may make its way into forests or oceans. Birds and marine animals eat these plastics, and moreover, plastics can strangle them.
STRICK Amsterdam wants to STOP the depletion of earth’s resources and reduce plastic waste. Therefore, we reuse fossil fuels. Firstly, we collect used plastic bottles. These bottles are processed into flakes and then spun into yarn. The recycling process contributes to a lower carbon footprint. After the recycling process, the yarns are woven into shoelaces.
The reuse of plastics will lead to a more sustainable and cleaner environment. Moreover, our shoelaces can be recycled over and over and over again!
STRICK Amsterdam launches two pair of shoelaces made of blue yarn. The Wasted White lace and Bottle Blue lace. The blue color symbolizes the polluted sky and sea due to plastics, but also the confidence we should have in our abilities to reduce the huge problem of plastic waste.
We hear you think, why should I buy this lace instead of a normal one or the ones I already have? The shoelaces of STRICK Amsterdam are made of 100% sustainable materials through the use of recycled plastic. Moreover, the shoelaces are a local product, because they are fully ‘made in Holland’.
This should be enough said already, but we have more... The power of plastic makes our shoelaces unrippable and stronger than normal shoelaces made of cotton/polyester. It can carry 160 kg easily! But hey, plastic, doesn't that make your lace slippery and hard to tie knots with?”. FALSE! The special weaving technique makes your knots firm, with a nihil chance of loose laces. You don't need to tie a second knot! Apart from these proven facts, our shoelace is simply awesome. We are PROUD to wear our laces, and we hope you will be as well.
The donated money will be used to making the machines ready for production and to set up a mind blowing marketing campaign. MORE MONEY = CLEANER WORLD. The more money we raise, the more plastic bottles we can collect, the greater the production of our shoelaces will be. After selling a lot of shoelaces the revenue will be partly used to collect more plastic bottles and create more sustainable shoelaces. In this way our environment will become cleaner and more sustainable!
Risks and challenges
We made agreements with our manufacturers about the production process of our shoelaces. An example of an agreement is that the plastic yarn is really made from recycled plastic instead of ‘new’ plastic.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
