A small video of the base life

Hey guys,

This is a rough idea of how base should function in Forsaken Fortress.
First, you need to design and construct your base(walls, small vegetable garden, electricity generator....) You can only build limited things at the beginning and as the game progresses you will find more blue prints for new structures. You need raw materials in order to build. For example, you need rock for building walls. You need to assign job to your team member(repairing, making ammunition, training....). And you need to keep them all happy.

The next update will be Character attributes and traits  :D

I like how Sims like it seems, and how the personal aspect of the game must be pretty important.

Oliver - there will be a lot of invasions by monsters and potentially by other groups of people who discovered your base. As well as events you just mentioned.

Are there going to be assaults on your base? Like special events where you need to ward off invaders or possibly an event where people come to your base asking for entrance and you can accept them in or turn them away which will cause a chance of them to return and try to force their way in. But if you do bring them in then you have to spend more resources because you have more people in your group.

    4. ekster on December 6, 2012

Great to hear that. Looking forward to the game even more now! :D

    5. Photon Productions Creator on December 6, 2012

Igor: Yes the game has a large map with full freedom. So transportation is also important if you want to go far. And I like the research idea.

    6. Photon Productions Creator on December 6, 2012

Gandalf, rock, jose and drakrochma: Thanks! We also believe there are a lot of possibilities in this game. Let's keep it up.

moozaad and ekster - yes we are going to make everything more post-apocalyptic looking(more variety, more hand-made type). Our artists will make several different texture sets for each thing you can build. Taking smaller already-built stuff such as a radio is already planned in the game. We will discuss more on whether you can find larger things such as a sofa(because you can't put a sofa in your pocket. maybe put it in your vehicle)

    8. Photon Productions Creator on December 6, 2012

Serrdra - Do you mean the PDA similar to that of Fallout?

    9. Photon Productions Creator on December 6, 2012

Andy - exploration is very important. In order to keep the base running, you need to find supplies.
Research is planned for the game, but we are still discussing about what this function should do.

Igor: It is not the final game music.:P

    11. Photon Productions Creator on December 6, 2012

Igor: You are right. well the blueprint thing is just an idea indicating that you can't build everything at the beginning. Research sounds reasonable for more advanced equipments such as water purifier...

      probably my comment was misunderstood.
actually i want to do A LOT OF EXPLORATION and it would be great to have large map with interesting places to go and full freedom of choice in what to do.
i just don't think you see construction blueprints around some planet specifically for your base, like they knew you would come.

so i recommend doing a research tree and researching tech, and some research will give you a new room or set of equipment for a new facility, kinda like in xcom.
i think that would be logical.

by the way it would be great to progress in construction of your base from hauling chairs and equipment from wasteland to making your own facilities and all stuff in workshops and constructing Brotherhood-of-steel-like base/vault.

also i had an idea that you could just kill the mutant hives and terraform the planet to live on it and dont construct a ship (alternative ending). what do you think guys?

I'am not going to lie i liked the idea, but the videos really made me love the game. Its like the other person hinted a mixture of great games evil genius and fallout out B.O.S. and the Sims. Three great games that i love playing. I'am encouraging all my friends to back this game. Would there ever be a lan or multiplayer capability in the future, i realize launch date or soon is out of the question.

    14. drakrochma on December 6, 2012

Looks like the game i dreamed of:)
      Keep this style .
Well, if possible, please replace the yellow chairs :)

    15. ekster on December 6, 2012

      I like how that looks!
And I don't know if it's possible or if you guys have the time for it, but since it's post apocalyptic, I'd love to see the furniture being a bit... unconventional.
It be great if there were some random chair models, were some wold look like it's made out of broken stuff you'd randomly scavenge outside, like some old ugly school chairs, office chair,s kitchen table chairs, etc. and they would result in making some ugly looking furniture, while others looking much nicer, depending on what they scavenge, or what their skills are. Or the easier solution is to have them randomly picked from a mix of models when you put them down.

And any chance of finding already build stuff and hauling it back to base? I'd love to see them try and haul a couch or bed, while fighting off a wave of enemies. :p

I think there's too many possibilities and potential for this game to be wrapped up all for launch date - so with future mods (if allowed) but definitely with future packs etc I reckon this game can have more re-playability than a lot of main stream games today =o)

Thanks for posting the video. I have a question about PDA/Smartphones. Will one be implemented in the game as a control surface? ex. weather reports? downloading new schematics? mini games?

      on December 6, 2012

Looks almost a pos-apocalyptic version of the Sims but more deeper, I liked.

    19. moozaad on December 6, 2012

I saw a lot of duplicate models there for furniture. I hope the real game has more variation. It'd be nice for instance if when you place a sofa it randomly picked from collection of cosmetically different but functionally identical sofas. Artistically I hate placing 12 items of furniture down that have exactly the same colours and stains as each other, like they were mass produced that way.

    20. AndyBumpkin on December 6, 2012

I guess that encourages exploration though rather than players just 'turtleing' in their base? But presumably there is some kind of research tree/progression anyway?

Great video btw, cannot wait to play this!

    21. Igor on December 6, 2012

is this the actual game music which will be used in final version?

    22. Igor on December 6, 2012

IMHO "you will find more blue prints for new structures." sounds kinda irrational that you should LOOK for building blueprints over the wasteland :))

maybe you should develop and implement research system for that, based on finding some technologies in the wasteland on secret bases or Flying Saucers or whatever, etc.

      just an opinion:)

    23. Photon Productions Creator on December 6, 2012

Nikki - Thanks. The pathfinding is tricky since this game involves a lot of dynamic avoidance. We use the traidional grid-based A* algorithm.

    24. Nikki on December 6, 2012

wow that looked incredible. i can understand the mention of evil genius but this is so much more precise with fitting individual walls. how is the pathfinding around the objects you place for the AI?

    25. Photon Productions Creator on December 6, 2012

Steven- I have never played Evil genius. I just checked out their videos and them look fun. I will play it if I had time(nearly impossible):P

    26. Photon Productions Creator on December 6, 2012

Matty - Thanks, yes it is the game engine rendering and it is close to the final game, although a lot of things will be refined(textures, models and animation)

    27. Photon Productions Creator on December 6, 2012

Aerouge- no it is not a mod for the Sims. The simulation part is influenced by the Sims but totally different games :)

    28. Matty on December 6, 2012

      Looks really nice!
was this video rendered out of the game engine?
aka is this close to what it will look like(subject to change naturally).

Cant wait for next update, want to see more new content and not those pieces we have seen before ;)

    29. Aerouge
      on December 6, 2012

Wait a second... is this a mod for the SIMS? The talks remind me a lot of this ^^

    30. Steven Greenhalgh on December 6, 2012

Looks good, I'm liking this game more and more, reminds me of Evil Genius.
